Thu Dau Mot city multiplies the voluntary blood donation initiative
In addition to promoting propaganda and mobilization to engage a significant number of individuals in the voluntary blood donation movement, Thu Dau Mot City also prioritizes recognizing individuals and families who donate blood multiple times. This focus has effectively motivated and encouraged community participation in blood donation efforts to save lives, thereby making a positive contribution to the overall blood donation initiative across the province.

Crimson droplets of affection
“Donate blood - Give life,” and “Every drop of blood given - A life remains” are messages imbued with profound humanistic significance. These sentiments have been actively promoted by the Red Cross Associations at all levels in Thu Dau Mot City, reaching a diverse audience to encourage and mobilize community participation in blood donation efforts aimed at saving lives in recent times.
At the recent Voluntary Blood Donation Festival organized by the Provincial Red Cross in collaboration with various units, numerous volunteers from local communities participated, including Mr. Tran Duc Hoai from Phu Loi Ward, Thu Dau Mot City. Having donated blood since his student days, Mr. Hoai continued to register for participation after graduating and entering the workforce, as he views this initiative as profoundly meaningful. The blood he donates not only assists individuals in times of illness and need but also enables him to monitor his health status and make positive lifestyle adjustments for his well-being.
“What motivates me to engage in this activity is the opportunity to assist individuals with anemia throughout their treatment. My blood can facilitate patients' recovery and enable them to return to their normal lives, which is profoundly meaningful,” stated Mr. Hoai.
Donating blood to save lives is a commendable and altruistic endeavor. The act of blood donation has evolved into a routine activity with significant impact, drawing participation from numerous officials, union members, association members, and individuals from diverse backgrounds within the city. Whenever the city, province, or local organizations host this initiative, a substantial number of individuals eagerly register and await their turn to donate blood for the benefit of others. The blood donated by volunteers plays a crucial role in replenishing the blood supply necessary for the treatment and emergency care of patients in need.
Prompt encouragement
In 2024, voluntary blood donation efforts in Thu Dau Mot City successfully mobilized and collected 4,088 out of a target of 3,450 blood units, thereby surpassing the goal set by the Provincial Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee, achieving 118.5% of the target. Notably, from the beginning of 2025 to the present, Thu Dau Mot City has mobilized 1,648 out of a target of 3,500 blood units, reaching 47% of the assigned goal for 2025.
To meet and surpass the annual voluntary blood donation target, the City Association diligently adheres to the plan and target set by the province. This enables them to advise the City's Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee in formulating a strategy for distributing targets among wards, sectors, and organizations within the city. Furthermore, the Red Cross Associations at the ward level have also provided guidance to their respective Steering Committees in assigning voluntary blood donation targets to local sectors, organizations, and branches. Efforts in public outreach have been prioritized and enhanced. Annually, the Associations at all levels develop plans to promote and encourage participation among cadres, members, youth, Red Cross volunteers, and local residents in voluntary blood donation initiatives.
Mr. Ly Van Minh, Chairman of the Thu Dau Mot City Red Cross Society, stated that the outreach efforts were conducted through various methods, including the initiation of training classes, direct mobilization, broadcasting on the ward's radio station, displaying banners, and collaborating with universities to promote voluntary blood donation among students. As a result, officials, members, and university students in the area have enhanced their understanding, awareness, and sense of responsibility regarding the voluntary blood donation movement. The number of individuals participating in blood donation and those donating repeatedly has increased annually.
In conjunction with propaganda efforts, the initiatives aimed at rewarding, honoring, and encouraging participation in voluntary blood donation have been effectively executed. Beyond the inherent benefits of engaging in voluntary blood donation, the Red Cross Association of the 14 wards in Thu Dau Mot City has advised the Ward People's Committee to provide a support of 100,000 VND per session for each individual participating in voluntary blood donation. Notably, to inspire and motivate community involvement, the Red Cross Association of Thu Dau Mot City consistently prioritizes the recognition and commendation of individuals and families who have significantly contributed to blood donation efforts that save lives.
On April 17, Thu Dau Mot City recognized and awarded 3 households and 160 individuals who had participated in voluntary blood donation five times, as well as 6 households and 57 individuals who had donated blood voluntarily ten times in 2024.
As an individual recognized for her five voluntary blood donations, Ms. Cao Thi Lan Huong from Phu Loi ward stated, “Donating blood is not only beneficial for my health, but it also assists patients requiring blood transfusions in hospitals. I feel immense happiness and joy when I am eligible to donate blood.” Proud of her contributions, Ms. Huong expressed her intention to continue encouraging others to engage in voluntary blood donations, ensuring that vital blood supplies are available for those in need.
