Thu Dau Mot performs well social security work

Ensuring social security is a task that is always concerned Party committees, authorities, Fatherland Front Committees, and mass organizations in Thu Dau Mot city. With many meaningful programs and activities, over the past time, Provincial Fatherland Front Committees at all levels of TDM City have mobilized all resources to well perform social security work, support disadvantaged people in bettering their lives, actively contributing to the successful implementation of the city's political, socio-economic development goals and tasks.

Practically supporting people in need

Tran Dong Thanh, Vice Chairman of Fatherland Front Committee of Thu Dau Mot City, said ensuring social security is one of the important tasks, always concerned Party Committee and People's Committee of the city. On that basis, Fatherland Front Committee of Thu Dau Mot City actively propagated and encouraged; coordinated with relevant levels, branches, member organizations and localities to effectively implement social security work.

To have resources to carry out social security programs as well as help the poor and disadvantaged, Fatherland Front Committees of the city and wards coordinated with departments and mass organizations to set up many practical, meaningful movements and activities, earning trust of the population.

In Phu Loi ward, every year, Fatherland Front of the ward organizes many activities for poor people, especially temporary residents and workers staying in this area. Do Xuan Hung, Chairman of Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Loi ward, said that Phu Loi is one of the localities that has a large population, including over 20,000 temporary residents.

The ward always identifies social security as one of its important tasks. With the motto "leaving no one behind", the ward has also implemented some outstanding models to contribute to the care and support for the poor and needy people.

For example, the model "Charity Profile" has been implemented since March 2022, the ward makes a profile and directly connects benefactors and donors to those in need. Up to now, the ward has made 14 "benevolence profiles" with monthly support from 500,000 to 1.5 million VND/profile; total value of support is more than 140 million VND.

Pham Thi Tuyet Thanh, living in quarter 9, is one of needy people supported by this meaningful model. Thanh’s family has a very harsh situation. Her husband had a traffic accident and lost his ability to work. Thanh does not have a stable job, sells soy milk every morning to earn an income for her family. She has 3 children of school age.

Knowing the difficult situation of her family, the ward’s administration came to this family and set up a profile. As a result, Thanh's family has received a monthly support from this model for more than one year. “Thanks to this support, my husband and I are able to make a living for our family and provide for schooling of our three children,” said Thanh.

Working together to take care of needy people

To uphold the spirit of "mutual love", "good leaves protect torn leaves" of the nation, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels in Thu Dau Mot city and its member organizations have made good practices to care for the poor and disadvantaged people.

Typically, the work of mobilizing resources to build houses of great solidarity, compassionate shelters, Red Cross houses, charity houses, gratitude houses for those having housing difficulties. From the beginning of this year, departments and mass organizations in Thu Dau Mot city have propagated and called on many sources to build 20 houses and repair 5 houses, with a total cost of more than 2.16 billion VND.

In addition, the Fatherland Front and its member organizations also mobilized and gave gifts to poor, near-poor households, poor policy families, households of Agent Orange/dioxin victims, disabled people; take care of trade union members and employees; visited and gave gifts to policy families, revolutionary elders, taking care of Vietnamese heroic mothers, lonely elderly people, children in poor and difficult circumstances etc. on occasion of Lunar New Year 2022 with 11,457 gifts, total cost of more than 5,728 billion VND.

Recently, in some localities and neighborhoods of Thu Dau Mot city, a very effective model has appeared and earned the people’s trust, that is "Breakfast at 0VND".  This model shows the solidarity, mutual affection in the community.

In Phu Loi ward, from June 2022, Quarter 5 has implemented the model "Breakfast at 0VND" to serve worker families residing in this neighborhood and those having harsh circumstances. This model offers free breakfast in morning of last Sunday every month. After 4 months, the model has served 2,800 breakfasts of 0VND.

Fatherland Front of Phu Tho ward also has a model named "Compassionate kitchen" (held periodically on the 15th day of the lunar calendar every month) to give free meals and support necessities to disadvantaged households in this area.

In addition to the above activities and models, Fatherland Front Committee and its member organizations, localities have also carried on many effective activities, making a positive contribution to social welfare in the city, such as: supporting migrant young people having difficult circumstances, the campaign "Each organization, each individual attaches to a humanitarian address", saving for poor women; compassionate market fairs, 0VND markets, giving scholarships to poor and studious students...

According to Tran Dong Thanh, these practical activities of the Fatherland Front and mass organizations to take care of the lives of the poor and disadvantaged people in the city have spread widely, promoting the spirit of solidarity and mutual affection in the community; thereby contributing to the implementation of social security policies at all levels and sectors.

Thanh added that to continue to effectively carry out this work, in addition to the participation of the political system, it is necessary to have the consensus and support of all people. Therefore, the Fatherland Front at city level will strengthen dissemination and mobilization among agencies, units, businesses, units, individuals, businesses, benefactors, religious organizations, and citizens actively so that all people join hands to do social security work and care for poor people.

During the first 9 months of 2022, Fatherland Front Committee and mass organizations from city to local levels of Thu Dau Mot City mobilized and distributed donations to social security work with a total amount of more than 11 billion VND.
