Joy of unity

On April 30, 1975, the complete liberation of the South and reunification of the country was the most important historical event of the whole nation in general and of Thu Dau Mot city in particular. And a man attached to that historical moment that we want to mention is Nguyen Minh Giao, formerHead of provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Education Commission. At that time, Mr. Giao was an officer of provincial Youth Union directly operating in Thu Dau Mot town and a member of the Uprising Board, in charge of the rebel army in the enemy's heart.

He brought us back to the time when the revolutionary spirit of Thu Dau Mot’s army and people rose up to seize power. 47 years ago, under the leadership of the Party, the army and people in the province raised high the indomitable will, upholding synergy with the spirit of "one day equals 20 years" and the motto of "The province liberates itself and districts to liberate themselves and communes to liberate themselves", simultaneously making the general offensive and uprising.

At that time, Thu Dau Mot town’s liberation force was divided into 7 attack wings led by comrades in provincial Uprising Steering Committee. The town’s own uprising force was divided into 5 attack wings: The East wing was responsible for fighting the police agency, coordinating with insiders to take over Phu Cuong working house; The North wing was responsible for capturing Chanh Hiep commune and going straight to the center of the province; The South wing was divided into 2 groups (the first group was responsible for capturing Ken military station, Chanh Ngoai and Chanh Trong hamlets, taking over the 2 hamlets together with Go Dau base; the second group was responsible for taking over and protecting Binh Duong Sugar Factory, Phu Tho and Phu Van hamlets; The West wing was responsible for capturing the hamlets of My Hao, Chanh Loc and marching forward the School of Engineering Officers. The remaining force had the task of rebelling in the enemy's heart and coordinating with forces outside.

Mr. Giao recalled: "After hearing Duong Van Minh to invite representatives of the revolution to "hand over" the government, in Binh Duong, Nguyen Van Cua, provincial Chief of the puppet government contacted provincial Steering Committee for Frontline Force to "hand over the government", but we forced him to surrender. In a desperate situation, Nguyen Van Cua and a few entourages went on a Jeep to retreat to Saigon, but were bombarded on the roads. Therefore, they had to turn back. When arriving at the Go Dau intersection, they were stopped by a female security group, led by comrade Cam Van, at 9:40 am on April 30. After the attack groups entered the inner town, comrade Tam Tan, member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of provincial Security Commission finished occupying the local police station and prison, immediately went up to place a flag at the Administration Agency of provincial puppet government at 10:30 am. Also at this time, comrade Bay Tan's delegation also placed a flag on the roof of Phu Cuong working house. At about 10:30, on April 30, 1975, the revolutionary flag was fluttering on the roofs of the enemy’s agencies. In the joy of victory, the people of Thu Dau Mot town hung the national flag and the flag of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam across the roads."

After the liberation day, Thu Dau Mot city as well as the whole province and the country entered a new period of the national construction and defense. With solidarity and unanimity, the Party, government and people of Thu Dau Mot city joined hands to successfully implement all the proposed resolutions, being always worthy of being the political, economic- cultural hub of Binh Duong province.

Especially, after 2020, the role and position of Thu Dau Mot city have been raised to a new height as an urban area with the highlight of being the new urban administrative center in combination with the existing urban area, connecting with other urban centers in the region under the model of harmonious socio-economic development towards a smart, green growth city. The Party Committee and people of Thu Dau Mot city are further uniting to build up a more civilized, prosperous, beautiful and modern city, being worthy of the history of the local heroic land and people.

Vo Thi Bach Yen, Permanent Vice-Secretary of Thu Dau Mot city said that in the period of 2020-2025, Thu Dau Mot city’s Party Committee has set the common goals of further building up a pure and strong political system; mobilizing resources to invest in the local construction and development towards smart and green growth; further developing the local economy under the structure of services-industrial manufacture and urban agriculture, with priority to strongly developing high-quality services, improving the quality of living environment and urban landscape towards sustainability; ensuring national defense, maintaining political security, social order and safety; constantly improving the people's material and spiritual lives, ensuring social welfare, well implementing the task of mobilizing people to get involved in civilized urban -cultural lifestyle construction.

According to Mrs.Yen, for worthy development, the development of Thu Dau Mot city always ensures inheritance, continuity, dynamism and creativity; upholding the synergy of the political system; building the great national unity bloc, creating social consensus. The city determined that the local economic - urban - cultural - social development must be linked with economic growth, socio-cultural development, human being building, environmental protection while maintaining political stability in all situations, paying attention to well implementing policies on social welfare, well serving the increasing needs of the people.

At the same time, the city focuses on summarizing reality, promptly detecting and praising good examples while replicating effective models and ways. The city must really attach importance to Party building as a key task. And above all, the city’s Party Committee must always unite, strictly implement the principle of democratic centralism and working regulations, take active solutions in setting up a plan to implement resolutions…
