Supporting the poor to overcome difficulties, stabilize their lives, and contribute to achieving the goal of sustainable poverty reduction is an issue that is always of concern to all levels and branches of Thuan An City. With many meaningful activities, Fatherland Front Committee and organizations of Thuan An City have brought happiness to the poor and disadvantaged people, giving them more motivation to better their lives.

Fatherland Front Committee of Thuan An City builds and hands over many houses to help disadvantaged people stabilize their lives.

Warm happiness

One of the practical activities carried out very effectively by the Fatherland Front at all levels in Thuan An City in recent years is supporting the construction and repair of “great solidarity” houses for poor households living in extremely difficult circumstances. Tran Van Tao (60 years old) in Nguyen Trai quarter of Lai Thieu ward has received support to build a house. Tao is lonely and has an unstable income.

He said that when he was young, he worked as a machinist, which was enough to cover his daily living expenses. Many years ago, due to poor health after a stroke, he had to quit his job and work as a motorbike taxi driver to earn little income to take care of his life. However, due to the competition with technology-based motorbike taxis, his work also encounters many difficulties, some days he does not have any trips. Life is too difficult, his old house that protected from rain and sun was degraded, seriously damaged, but he had no money to repair it.

Knowing his situation, Fatherland Front Committee of Lai Thieu ward mobilized funds to build a house to help him have a new, warm place to to shelter from the rain. Looking at the newly built house, ready to be handed over to him, Tao kept smiling. He said he was very happy as being cared and having a spacious house like this. “I live alone, my income is unstable, so I'm very happy as receiving support to build a house. Now that I have a house, I no longer have to worry about bad weather. I will try to find a job to make a living", said Tao.

Nguyen Ngoc Phuong, Chairwoman of Fatherland Front Committee of Thuan An City, said that during the first 9 months of 2023, the Fatherland Front at all levels in the area supported the construction and handover of 9 new houses and repaired 2  houses with a total cost of more than VND837 million. Currently, Fatherland Front Committee at all levels is building 13 more “great solidarity” houses and will give them to households on occasion of the 93rd anniversary of Fatherland Front Committee (November 18, 1930 - November 18, 2023).

“A home is one of the most important things in a person's life. If you settle down, you will have a good career”. Therefore, the City Fatherland Front has implemented a program to build houses to help the poor, especially those with housing difficulties, have a stable place to live. When receiving houses, these people were very emotional and expressed their gratitude to the Fatherland Front as well as the authorities and benefactors at all levels who joined hands to support, help them have a place to shelter from the rain and sun, feel secure and have more motivation to make a living and improve their lives."

Mobilize many support resources

In recent years, Fatherland Front Committee and leaders of Thuan An city have always paid attention to implementing social welfare tasks, taking care of the poor and disadvantaged families in the area. Programs and activities launched by the Fatherland Front have received the attention of member organizations and have been actively supported by businesses and philanthropists.

To mobilize social resources for taking care of the poor and disadvantaged, right from the beginning of this year, Fatherland Front Committee of Thuan An City directed Fatherland Front Committee of communes and wards to well organize movements, patriotic emulation campaigns, and activities to support the poor and needy people so that they can have motivation and conditions to rise up.

Promoting its role as a "bridge" between the Party, the government and the people to work together and unanimously overcome difficulties, in addition to the program of building “great solidarity” houses to help the poor stabilize their lives, Fatherland Front Committees at all levels in the city also mobilize social resources to carry out more activities to support the poor, disadvantaged, victims of Agent Orange, the blind, the elderly, poor children, lottery ticket sellers, poor workers at lodging houses...

Phuong added that in recent times, Fatherland Front Committee and member organizations of Thuan An City have contributed greatly to the implementation of the city's social welfare policy. In narrow budget conditions, socialization is very important. The Fatherland Front has utilized the great solidarity power to mobilize all people, especially businesses and philanthropists, to join hands to care for the poor. Many meaningful activities such as giving gifts, supporting unexpected difficulties, building houses... have helped many people have opportunities and motivation to improve their lives, actively contributing to the city's poverty reduction program.

“To well carry out the work of caring for, supporting the poor with the motto "no one is left behind", the city's Fatherland Front and member organizations will promote and innovate communication methods and mobilize officials, agencies, units, businesses, and philanthropists to continue supporting the Fund for the Poor and other social welfare programs.

From there, these activities will create consensus among the whole society about the work of caring for the poor, spreading the spirit of "mutual love and solidarity" in the community to well realize the goal of sustainable poverty reduction. We also hope that poor and difficult households should not rely on or expect support from the state, but should proactively overcome difficulties to soon escape poverty and have a better life," Phuong said.

Over the first 9 months of 2023, Fatherland Front Committee of Thuan An City, communes and wards mobilized VND1,512 billion for the Fund for the poor. From the Fund for the Poor and other social security and charity programs, Fatherland Front Committee at all levels gave 6,574 gifts to the poor, poor households, and households living in difficult circumstances. Of which, the city level gave 1,651 gifts, 1.2 tons of rice and 14 tons of vegetables to the poor and disadvantaged with a total value of more than VND1 billion; Commune and ward levels gave 4,923 gifts with a total value of VND2.3 billion.
