Thuan An’s Red Cross Society opens its first exemplary role-models conference

Early May 5, Thuan An town’s Red Cross Society held its first conference for exemplary role-models in the 2010-2015 period.

The society mobilized members, volunteers and people from all strata to get involved in its social charity activities over the past five years. As a result, there were many collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in social charity activities organized by the society. The society over time mobilized more than VND63bln for 66,738 poor people via many significant programs. Particularly, the “Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims” program presented 33,419 gifts worth VND8bln to disabled people. The support program for pupils also awarded 287 scholarships, 1,435 notebooks and 24 bicycles to poor-but-excellent pupils

The society also built and upgraded 10 “red cross” houses; mobilized more than VND300mln from organizations and individuals to support central provinces hit by natural disasters…Besides, members of the society helped each other in economic development with more than VND17bln.

Such these apart, the society paid attention to public health care via many practical activities, including providing free medical check-ups, medicine and meals, presenting wheelchairs, granting health insurance cards for poor pupils, launching a movement of planting and using medicinal herbs, giving first-aid for those meeting with accidents…with a total value of more than VND16bln. Also during the five past years, the society mobilized more than 7,000 people to give blood, exceeding the set target.

On this occasion, 17 members of the society were awarded the mementoes “For the humanitarian cause” of the Vietnam Red Cross Society. Thuan An town’s People’s Committee also conferred the certificates of merit to 15 collectives and 32 individuals who made contributions to the local “red cross” movements between 2010 and 2015.
