Update: 06-07-2018 | 16:37:52

With the purpose of building Thuan An Town as a civilized, modern urban locality, branches and unions in the town are working hard to implement many meaningful and effective models, in which the most prominent is the model "urban civilized roads”.

From a key road

Nguyen Van Tiet road in Lai Thieu ward, Thuan An Town is quite spacious and clean with good synchronized infrastructure. The road is 3,000m long. Many systems, such as lighting, signage, public trash cans, and trees, are neatly trimmed and organized. In the past, trash collection sites were often located at crossroads, foot of electric poles or around food stores; this is corrected now. Billboards, leaflets on the road no longer appear. On Saturdays or Sundays, agencies and unions of the town regularly clean up streets, collect garbage, and do propagation work to raise people’s awareness of environmental hygiene, social security and order at their area; At the same time, encourage people to fly national flag on big national occasions and other important political events of the country. Nguyen Van Duoc living in Nguyen Van Tiet street, said: "Previously, this road is very messy. But since the policy of building urban civilized roads took effect, every household willingly preserve environmental hygiene, sidewalks, and roads to be clean and nice.

A corner of Nguyen Van Tiet street is clean and beautiful.

Vo Thi Thu Thuy, Chairwoman of Thuan An Town Women's Union, said: "With determination to build Nguyen Van Tiet street (Lai Thieu ward) to become an urban civilized road, WU of Thuan An Town organized the cleaning up, removing ads, illegal billboards, encouraged households on the street to collect garbage, do not encroach sidewalks... due to good propagation, people live on this road enthusiastically support this, thereby their awareness, responsibility was also improved. The town Women's Union supported 175 trash cans to restaurant households along the road, encouraged business households, people not to encroach sidewalks, delivered 1,175 leaflets on environmental protection, and handled environmental violations. The town Women's Unions also regularly maintain propagation panels on Nguyen Van Tiet street about local women joining hands to build urban civilized ward".

To multiply good models

From the effective model of Nguyen Van Tiet road, VFC, branches, and unions of Thuan An Town set up and deployed more urban civilized roads with different names. For example, the town VFC built 42 "green - clean - beautiful" roads of 28,641m long and 66 communal roads with names, like "bright - green - clean – beautiful road", “no-garbage road” ... Youth Union and grassroots branches in the town also organized propagation activities "For a civilized city", "Urban civilization road", launched Green Sunday, and arranged 8 garbage collection points along Nguyen Trai street. Communes and wards often hire laborers to remove illegal advertisements on local roads. Besides, Culture and Information Office of Thuan An Town organized 24 times to remove over 14,000 illegal leaflets, posters, panels, banners, warned 4 cases of commercial advertisements beyond prescribed time limit; installed 6 billboards on roads.

Tran Van Muoi, Head of Culture and Information Office of Thuan An Town, said: "At present, the criteria for the model "urban civilization road" of the town have not been developed yet. But all levels and branches of the town have actively promoted propagation and removed advertisements. In particular, Thuan An Town Women's Union was successful in the construction of Nguyen Van Tiet road. This has contributed to creating a good change, improving the cultural life and urban civilization of local people. However, sidewalk encroachment still happens on some roads, street vendors are affecting negatively urban beauty. To maintain, expand and improve the quality of urban civilization roads, Culture and Information Office continues to cooperate with branches and unions to enhance propagation and raise people’s awareness through practical things ".
