With the motto “development always go hand in hand with environmental protection”, Binh Duong has used effectively international loans to invest in concentrate waste collection systems towards limiting landfill and maximizing recyclability of wates, thereby contributing to environmental protection…
Recycling waste
Chanh Phu Hoa waste treatment factory under Biwase is currently managing two landfills A and B, each has an area of 5ha. Mr. Tran Chi Thang, Deputy Director of the factory, said landfill A had been formed, when the province had not had investments, technologies for waste treatment, thus they had temporarily applied landfilling method. However, Biwase installed some basic items, such as lining geotextile fabric at the bottom in order not to affect negatively the aquifer; installing biogas recovery tubes to operate generators; building walls surrounding the landfills. Landfill A is now filled, the factory is exploiting composted organic substances to produce 420 tons/day of Compost fertilizer branded Con Voi Binh Duong. This fertilizer has been favored by many farmers in inh Thuan, Binh Phuoc, Tien Giang..., because it is useful to all kinds of fruit tree and crop.
Ms. Lenita Toivakka, Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade and Development (2nd from left, top), and Binh Duong leaders visited waste recycling factory at Chanh Phu Hoa
In the waste sorting process, difficult-to-treat waste, like metals, plastics, sands, stones, cement… are classified into 2 groups: group of waste cannot be treated including rocks, mud, cement... and will be ed to produce concrete, bricks, tiles branded Con Voi that are favored by constructors in Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc and HCMC. The other group of recyclable waste including plastics, metals that will be recycled into raw materials for stoves or plastic factories. Landfill leachate is also treated according to standards of Column A QCVN 14:2008/BTNMT.
According to regulations, garbage trucks after disposing waste at dumps must be cleaned to ensure hygiene, aesthetics. Treated water is used for car washing lawn watering, mortar mixing, brick manufacturing… Mr. Thang stressed, by utilizing materials after recycling and using bioproducts to replace toxic chemicals, waste treatment price in Binh Duong is cheaper than most other places.
Investing in synchronous waste water processing system
In the socio-economic development process, Binh Duong has been improving the quality of investment attraction and environmental guarantee. Currently, apart from a continuous infrastructure system, the province has developed South Binh Duong water environment improving project with the aim to protect public health, the environment and water resources. The first work of this project is Thu Dau Mot wastewater collection and treatment plant funded by Japan. This system is capable of collecting wastewater on an area of 750ha within TDM City; Phase 1 has a capacity of 17.650m3 / day and night. Domestic wastewater after treatment will satisfy standards of Column A QCVN 14:2008/BTNMT. The plant was inaugurated and has officially come into operation since May 2013.
According to MSc. Nguyen Thanh Phong, Director of Thu Dau Mot wastewater treatment plant, thanks to advanced technological solutions, the above project has solved frustrations of local residents, namely, the obstruction of manholes, unhygienic condition because of sewage in rainy season, helping people to save costs from manhole, septic tank construction. Due to these advantages, many restaurants, hotels, households have actively connected to the general system. The number of households connected is growing, processing capacity of the factory is also increasing.
Binh Duong province is building Thuan An wastewater treatment plant with Phase 1’s capacity of 17.650m3 / day and night; and is developing a similar project in Di An Town. Mr. Nguyen Van Thien, CEO of Biwase, affirmed that the South Binh Duong water environment improving project was very important to pulic health, the environment and urban landscape. The highlight of this project is: To protect the environment in a sustainable way, we have to turn the environment into its original condition. Water is a renewable resource; thus wastewater must be controlled, treated well before discharging into the common environment, contributing to making our lives better and more beautiful. In the future, Biwase will continue to invest in machinery for urban canal dredging in order to bring nature closer to urban life.
