To prepare for adequate supplies

Provincial Department of Industry and Trade is currently implementing a market stabilizing program till Lunar New Year 2020. Stabilized prices are mainly of essential goods serving the increasing shopping demands of the people during the year-end and Lunar New Year 2020.

The program has now 12 enterprises, have prepared a goods volume with total value of VND 4,167.5 billion, of which the value for period before, during and after Lunar New Year is about VND 1,463.3 billion. These businesses continue to put 5 essential commodity groups on the stabilization list, including food, sugar, cooking oil, cattle meat, poultry meat, poultry eggs, processed foods, vegetables, fruits, petrol, medicine. Stabilized goods account for 30-40% of market demands, and will increase gradually before Tet.

Hồ Văn Bình, Deputy Director of Department of Industry and Trade, said that so far businesses had completed the plan to cooperate with suppliers to ensure a stable supply and price at the end of the year. The system of supermarkets, shopping centers, and convenience stores in the province finished the preparation for Tet goods supplies with the quantity of nearly 50% higher than normal month. Meanwhile, businesses planned to prepare shipments to remote areas to create favorable conditions for people to buy Tet goods, to avoid flocks to large centers causing traffic jams.

Vũ Thanh Trúc, Director of Co.opmart Supermarket in Dinh Market (Thu Dau Mot City), said that to meet people demands, the supermarket had stocked an increase of 15 - 40% goods amount compared to the same period last year. Currently their stockpile is ready. This supermarket mobilized goods from Ho Chi Minh City or from nearby warehouses to ensure timely supply of goods as well as stabilizing market prices. For pork supply, Co.opmart supermarket system prepared about 3,500 tons of meat. Therefore, there will be no shortage of goods during the year-end and Lunar New Year.

Sale of stabilized Tet goods will also opened in the northern districts and industrial zones of the province. Local governmental representatives said they had worked with retailers to select appropriate selling locations. According to Economic Office of Ben Cat Town, the town supports businesses and suppliers to make sales to rural areas and densely populated areas to ensure adequate supplies to people at the end of the year.

Price stabilization efforts

At present, the market is being heated; activities connecting supply and demand for Tet goods, sales promotion of consumer goods, garments etc. have also increased. Therefore, the effort to curb the common price increase on the market is the top concern of producers and retailers in the province.

To stabilize the selling price at supermarkets, Ms. Trúc informed that from the beginning of the year, Co.opmart supermarket had to apply a new price for some items outside the stabilization program with an increase in the range of 5-10%. Recently, some suppliers have requested input price adjustments. However, their supermarket cannot apply the price increase as suggested, because at the end of the year, the pressure of price increase is huge. The price increase need a plan and must apply appropriate prices to avoid shocking consumers.

Also according to Ms. Trúc, despite higher prices, the supermarket also offers promotional gifts and discounts to reduce the pressure for all consumers of Co.opmart supermarket. Particularly for the supply of pork, the supermarket has a big supply with good prices, such as Vissan, to serve the province's price stabilization program.

In addition, the supermarket also prepares a large amount of poultry meat and seafood products... Prices of these products will be reduced by 30-40% in order to curb the increase of meat prices.

Similarly, a representative of Big C supermarket said that the price increase was inevitable in the current situation. However, when receiving the price increase proposal, the supermarket worked with suppliers make the price increase as low as possible, because price increase will lead to more difficult consumption of goods. Therefore, supermarkets negotiated with suppliers to find a "common voice" for both consumers and suppliers. In last days of the year, the supermarket put more effort to keep a stable price level compared with the higher price of many products on the supermarket.
