Update: 07-12-2017 | 21:43:09

To people with disabilities, the participation in production not only creates income to feed themselves, reduce the burden on families and society but also an opportunity for them to prove themselves. Therefore, the province has created all good conditions to support people with disabilities.

To trigger desires

As a young man of Cay Truong (Bau Bang), Nguyen Quoc Sinh (born 1985), unfortunately, suffered from paralysis. Not giving up, his locality helped him to learn civil electricity. After training, he opened a repair shop at his home and opened a lottery ticket agent. So far, his life has been relatively stable. He and his wife are able to take good care of their son.

Provincial Association for the disabled - orphans and poor patients present gifts to disabled orphans, children and poor patients.

Making a broom is difficult to a normal person, and it is more difficult to people with disabilities. However, more than 34 members at provincial Blind Association have made thousands of broom provided to almost all companies and agencies in the province. Owing to this stable job, many disabled persons have saved money, raised their children up, and helped their families. Nguyen Van Hai, a 19-seniority worker at this organization, said: "To many people, blind people just stick to their families, but reality is far different. Being supported in job creation, our life have changed. We are able to provide ourselves and support our family."

To raise the aspirations for people with disabilities not only by opening vocational training classes, creating jobs, offering loans, from provincial to grassroots organizations have also mobilized scholarships for the disabled to improve their knowledge and stabilize their life in the future. For example, Van Anh Tuan (born 1999), in Thong Nhat quarter, Di An ward, Di An town, lost his left arm due to Sarcom disease. With his determination, Tuan strived to study well. However, the difficult family situation was a barrier for Tuan to realize his dream. Luckily, Tuan was in the list of tuition exemption by Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs of the town. "With the support of local authorities, I strive to learn well to be a useful person for the society," Tuan said.

Support in all aspects

Apart from caring for people with disabilities, from the province to the grassroots also supported housing, loans, giving gifts... The timely encouragement has created more happiness and the aspiration for people with disabilities to enrich themselves, their families and society. For example, in 2016 and 2017, Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs in collaboration with HCM City Center for Orthopedics and Rehabilitation organized medical screening for 1,035 poor and disadvantaged people with disabilities in 9 districts, towns and cities. In addition, the center also provided medicine, gave gifts to people with disabilities worth VND337 million.

Particularly, provincial Protection Association for people with disabilities - orphans and poor patients, in 2016 and 2017, supported 22 compassionate houses with total cost of VND1.2 billion. The association also gave gifts to 18,754 turns of people with disabilities, orphans and poor patients with total amount of VND8.1 billion; funded lens replacement for 157 blind people with the amount of VND230 million; carried out livelihood support activities for people with disabilities.

Ha Minh Trung, Deputy Director of Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, said that the objective was to support the disabled with the "fishing rod" but not the "fish", then they would escape poverty themselves. Therefore, with the attention of all levels, branches, efforts of themselves and their families, programs from province to grassroots level have brought about practical effects. So far, the majority of people with disabilities have made a stable income to improve their lives. This is one of the most effective and sustainable ways to escape from poverty. Furthermore, the programs also contributed to creating a change in the community’s awareness of supporting and encouraging people with disabilities to overcome difficulties. "If we give a money amount to people with disabilities, they can solve their immediate needs. But helping them to have suitable job, learning with their ability to be the key to solving employment problems and creating sustainable and long-term livelihoods," Mr. Trung said.
