To regularly check and evaluate the safety of disaster prevention and rescue works

On the morning of November 5, Nguyen Van Loi, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly’s Delegation; and leaders of the Provincial People's Committee and departments, branches surveyed the work of disaster prevention and rescue and the planning of port system on Saigon River.

The delegation checked the areas that may be hit by landslides and flooding along Saigon River route in Dau Tieng District, Ben Cat District, Thu Dau Mot City, Thuan An City to have a plan and be ready to respond promptly when a natural disaster occurs. There are currently 9 projects on the Saigon River to ensure the prevention and control of landslides; Of which, 2 projects are underway and 7 projects are at the stage of project proposal. When the projects are completed, flood protection due to flood discharge and high tides will be used to increase the adaptability of Binh Duong urban area to climate change, improve the environment, the quality of people’s lives along the Saigon River, contributing to urban renovation to facilitate the socio-economic development. The delegation also checked locations that are planned for construction of important ports affecting the socio-economic development of the province.

Through the survey, the Secretary of Provincial Party Committee assessed that the disaster prevention and rescue work had achieved some quite good results. He recommended that the agricultural branch need to regularly attach importance to the inspection and evaluation of safety level of projects that need to be protected or works related to disaster prevention and rescue work, and timely response when natural disasters occur. Localities need to have plans to develop ecotourism and river tourism in the coming time.
