Trade civilization of marketplaces free of wastes

Update: 01-08-2023 | 20:03:12

Recently, many localities in the province have focused on propaganda and mobilizing small businesses and people around the marketplaces to maintain general hygiene. With practical solutions, the area of Bung market of An Thanh ward in Thuan An city has increasingly improved in terms of environment to ensure the maintenance of the model of "zero waste marketplace" towards building commercial civilization.

The functional forces regularly remind the small traders of Bung Market to keep the environment clean

Small merchants raise awareness

One morning on a weekend, walking around the heart of Bung market, despite the narrow entrances, the neat arrangement of the stalls and the clean environment created a comfortable feeling for customers. Bung Market has been operating for more than a century to currently have about 340 small traders trading all kinds of agricultural products, food, household appliances, clothes etc. The place well met the shopping needs of local people.

As a small fruit and vegetable trader at the market for nearly 30 years, Vo Thi Hien, said: “The market has many shopping channels in order to increase competitiveness, we must ensure hygiene and safety. Food and prices are stable. Every day, before and after the sale, I clean at my trading area, and garbage is collected in the right place. Similarly, Le Thi Phuong, who has been trading fruit at the market for more than 30 years, added: "Business households in the market are always conscious of maintaining general hygiene and do not litter indiscriminately to ensure hygiene of the common environment.”

According to Dang Cong Khanh, an officer of the Bung Market Management Board, to avoid stagnation of garbage at the market, the ward has coordinated with the garbage collection unit to ensure a frequency of 2 times a day at 10 am and 16 pm. The Management Board regularly reminds small businesses to raise their self-consciousness about environmental hygiene to promote propaganda so that people living near the marketplaces do not throw garbage indiscriminately. The ward also arranges large garbage bins and daily collection vehicles to ensure urban beauty.

People join hands to preserve the environment

Previously, at Thu Khoa Huan and Nguyen Chi Thanh streets at the beginning of Bung market, spontaneous landfills appeared to pollute the environment, affecting the health of people and small businesses. In order to preserve environmental hygiene and protect the shopping space of traditional markets, the ward People's Committee and the Market Management Board cooperate with functional forces to patrol and remind and strictly handle violations. Up to now, the ward has solved spontaneous landfills on these two roads.

Nguyen Thi Hoa, a resident on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street of Thanh Hoa A neighborhood, said that the spontaneous landfill near the market area makes people around worry about their health. Since the spontaneous landfills are cleaned up, people are very excited. The families in the market area are also equipped with suitable trash cans, which are disposed of on time according to regulations.”

According to Tran Minh Quang, Chairman of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front Committee of An Thanh ward, Bung market is the central area of the ward. For a long time, the treatment of waste has not been strictly controlled, causing unsanitary conditions in the market and surrounding areas. Through the reflection of the households, the ward has organized propaganda combined with mobilizing people and small businesses to create a change in awareness of environmental protection. In addition, the Vietnamese Fatherland Front Committee of the ward often organizes the "Green Sunday" campaign to maintain the area's environmental sanitation. Public trash cans are equipped and arranged at suitable locations to ensure garbage dumping, collection and transportation.
