Trade unions mobilizes resources to take care of workers on Tet holidays

Binh Duong Provincial Labor Confederation informed that the source of social mobilization mobilized by trade unions in the province to take care of workers during Lunar New Year 2024 is nearly VND21 billion. In addition, grassroots trade unions of enterprises and industries also cooperate to open discount sales markets, give away products made by enterprises, organize lucky draws, and parties to take the best possible care of all employees.

 Tet comes early for union members and workers

Although there is about a month left until the Lunar New Year 2024, in recent days, Tet care activities for union members and workers have been carried out early by trade unions at all levels. In particular, Binh Duong Industrial Park Trade Union is the pioneer who opened two sessions of "Trade Union Tet Market" in industrial parks and residential areas where many workers live. On January 13 and 14, this unit will continue to open the third market at Dai Dang Industrial Park to help employees shopping for Tet goods as best as possible. At these markets, products are diverse and abundant, suitable for workers' income and offer discounts ranging from 10 - 40%/product.

From January 21, Trade Union of Binh Duong Industrial Parks continued to open the "Busy Spring" program, competition of rice cake making; organize game "Busy spring colors"; design competition and fashion show from recycled materials. Next will be programs "Tet reunion - Spring sharing"; Giving train and bus tickets, giving gifts and visiting employees who had labor accidents, difficult circumstances, or serious illnesses; Support for workers who have lost their jobs, stopped working... Pham Phuong Anh, a worker at Sakai Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Thuan An City), said: “Some businesses facing difficulties will let their employees take the Tet holiday early. Therefore, trade unions at all levels organizing early Tet care activities will help more workers."

Recently, Labor Confederation of Di An City also visited each business in the area to give nearly 100 train tickets for workers to Northern provinces; gave money to support more than 300 bus tickets for poor workers returning to Central and Northern home provinces to celebrate Tet. Doan Nam Le Thien, Vice Chairman of Labor Confederation of Di An City, said: “This year, grassroots trade unions in the area supported 1,150 bus tickets for workers returning to Western provinces and Central Highlands, with a total cost of VND1,050 billion. In addition to the allocated budget, the cooperation and contribution of businesses to take care of employees on Tet is huge."

It is expected that Di An city will have about 22,000 workers having difficult circumstances, who work at enterprises with grassroots trade unions, staying in the city and celebrating Tet. Thereby, Di An City Labor Confederation coordinated with local authorities at all levels to develop many practical Tet care programs for union members and workers. Grassroots trade unions's financial resources are expected to spend 4,500 gifts worth VND1.9 billion; mobilized businesses in the area for 1,750 gifts, worth nearly VND1.2 billion; mobilized district budget for 2,500 gifts, worth VND2.5 billion; higher-level grassroots trade unions gave 3,500 gifts, worth VND1.75 billion... In addition, grassroots trade unions of enterprises organized fun and entertainment activities and year-end parties for union members and workers; lucky draw programs and year-end gifts for employees at enterprises.

Businesses join hands

According to Provincial Labor Confederation, during the Lunar New Year 2024, it is expected that about 800,000 trade union members and workers will enjoy Tet care activities organized by Binh Duong Trade Union and local authorities with a total expenditure of VND302 billion. In particular, Provincial People's Committee, districts, towns and cities plan to support 44,400 workers with a total amount of more than VND44 billion. Of which, the provincial budget spends 32.25 billion VND, the district budget 12.15 billion VND. This year, provincial budget to support workers having difficult circumstances increased by 1,000 gifts compared to Tet 2023.

In addition to dedicating large budget amount to take care of employees, trade unions at all levels have mobilized socialization and gained VND21 billion. In each enterprise, grassroots trade union has thoughtful activities to give additional support to employees during the Tet holiday. Le Van Bien, Grassroots Trade Union Chairman of Response Vietnam Company (Tan Uyen City), said: “It is expected that the company will organize a small party for employees before December 20, earlier than previous years, so that employees can be more proactive in returning home to celebrate Tet with their families. Although this year there are common difficulties in production, the company guarantees salaries and Tet bonuses. Each employee will receive a Tet gift during the party, along with a lucky draw for TVs, refrigerators, rice cookers, motorbikes, and electric kettles."

Recently, grassroots trade union of Righ Rich Vietnam Company (Ben Cat Town) organized an early year-end party for hundreds of workers. This is an opportunity for company leaders to express gratitude to employees after a year of many efforts in operations and production and to commend outstanding employees. During the year-end party, the company's grassroots trade union organized quite lively and meaningful Tet holiday activities; a lucky draw with 120 prizes, equivalent to 120 million VND.

At Thien Nam Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (Di An City), the company's grassroots trade union is planning to hold a year-end dinner in the coming days. The company will give gifts to all union members and workers and a lucky draw program, zero-Dong booths, worth up to hundreds of millions of VND. Tran Ngoc Vinh, Grassroots Trade Union Chairman of the company, said: “The products at zero-Dong booths serving workers are mainly clothes of all kinds. We have cooperated with textile and garment enterprises to support union members and workers. There will be products from reputable brands displayed at the booths at the end of the year. Whoever needs it can take whatever they want, without having to waste money on shopping for Tet clothes for the whole family."

Along with trade unions at all levels, in recent days, authorities and unions of communes, wards and towns have also joined forces to support workers with gifts, many lodging houses’ owners have reduced and exempt rent before and after Tet to help employees have a peaceful, warm and happy Tet holiday.
