Traffic connectivity, development stimulus

Update: 22-10-2022 | 12:31:45

Resolution 24-NQ/TW of the Politburo on socio-economic development, ensuring national defence and security in the Southeast region up to 2030, with a vision for 2045, puts priority on the development of socio-economic infrastructure, especially transport system. Namely, the transportation network, the network of highways and ring roads will be perfected according to planning; airports, especially key airports of the region will receive investment and be upgraded.

In addition, the Resolution focuses on inland waterway infrastructure, the connectivity of leading centres with the main waterway transport routes of the region; synchronously connecting traffic system with economic zones, industrial parks, airports, and seaports. The Resolution sets a target of completing the HCMC Ring Road 3 by 2026, completing the Ring Road 4 by 2030; concentrates resources to invest in a series of traffic works according to the approved planning in order to connect provinces and cities not only in the Southeast zone but also in the whole South region.

Issues mentioned in the Resolution, including transport infrastructure, show the importance of a synchronous, modern and connected regional transport system, including roads, waterways, railways, and airlines.

All transportation infrastructure works will be completed to realise the common task of the whole region, which is to stimulate socio-economic development, especially carry the weight of the most dynamic economic region in the country.

Along with Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Duong has emerged as a new growth pole of the region in the past quarter of a century; is always in the top of the country in terms of economic development, especially investment attraction, industry, trade - services and urban areas.

Binh Duong currently has 27 industrial parks, ranks second in the country in terms of FDI attraction with about 40 billion USD. Currently, the whole province has over 41,000 domestic firms and more than 3,700 FDI ones.

The robust economic growth of Binh Duong as well as other provinces and cities in the region has been putting great pressure on transport infrastructure.

Traffic congestion in the region was recognised many years ago. With provincial resources and businesses, Binh Duong has invested in a series of highly dynamic transportation projects, such as National Highway 13, My Phuoc - Tan Van, North Tan Uyen - Phu Giao - Bau Bang, Bach Dang 2 bridge connecting with Dong Nai, bridges and roads connecting with Tay Ninh province...

However, the general transport infrastructure system of the whole region is still not stable enough to carry and stimulate faster and stronger economic development. With the promulgation of Resolution 24 of the Politburo, including many important issues and areas, in which priority is given to investment in regional transport infrastructure with specific goals and projects, it is expected that the transportation infrastructure in the Southeast region would be more synchronous and commensurate with the development.
