Two Vietnamese honored as Young Global Leaders

The Young Global Leader (YGL) is the annual title granted by the World Economic Forum (WEF) to individuals under 40 years old who have contributed significantly to professional fields and society.

Vo Trong Nghia is regarded as "the magician" in applying the dynamic principle into architecture. He can turn the houses built in rustic materials into modern green buildings. He is also one of the first architects in the country who has many works winning the Asian Association of Architects Awards, the International Architecture Award (USA), the Green Wood Design Award (USA) or the Global Holcim Award.

According to the WEF, Nguyen Hoang Long is considered the youngest ambassador of Vietnam to date. Born in 1976, he has made major contributions to the development of Vietnam - Italy relations.

Last year, there were also two Vietnamese on the Young Global Leader list – Mr. Gian Tu Trung – Director of the Institute for Educational Development (IRED) and Ms. Le Thi Thu Thuy - CEO of the Vingroup.

This year's award was given to 214 young leaders from 66 countries around the world, including 106 women. Their fields of activity are diverse, ranging from culture - art, education, media, and politics to business. East Asia contributes up to 49 representatives, followed by North America (48), Europe (46), the Middle East and North Africa (18), Latin America (17), sub-Saharan Africa (19) and South Asia (17).

They were selected from more than 2,000 candidates. Initially, they were carefully reviewed for expertise and professional resume. Then, candidates are assessed independently by Heidrick & Struggles.

A council lead by Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan will eliminate the last time. Candidates are selected based on academic achievement, knowledge, commitment to society and the ability to overcome difficulties.
