Uncle Ho’s soldiers on economic front

Veteran Pham Van Hoc in Phuoc Vinh township, Phu Giao district enjoy a comfortable life on business.

Not only do they dedicate intellectual, labor and themselves to the national independence, but they continue to make up glorious feats on economic front. They are Uncle Ho’s soldiers of yore. These veterans have involved in labor and production, contributing to local development of socio-economy, security and national defense.

Unity to overcome difficulties

After completing duty for the country, they return their homeland and promote virtues of soldiers to overcome difficulties and challenges in life. Especially, unity and mutual assistance to make wealth legitimately are considered as a great feat on new front of local veterans. Retuning from battlefields, most of these veterans face difficult life. Many of them arrived in Binh Duong to start a new life. According to Le Minh Xuan, vice chairman of the provincial veteran society, in the first stage of establishing the society, rate of poor cadres and members accounted for more than 60%.

Local economy at that time remained difficult. However, promoting Uncle Ho’s soldiers’ tradition on self-reliance, veterans reached significant results in production and business.

Making up feats

With preferential policies of capital and technical support, the provincial veteran society has over the past years spurred emulation movement on developing home-based economic and making wealth legitimately; accelerated gratitude repayment activities; improved material and spiritual life of members. The movement has created new impetus on production and business for veterans.

From 2009 to 2014, more than 10,000 veteran members enjoyed loans worth over VND160bn to develop home-based business. Besides, promoting internal force brought significant efficiency.

Over the past 5 years, the provincial veteran society has mobilized to offer preferential loans worth VND9,098bn for poor members. Social policies and the society’s internal force have helped many veterans develop rubber plantations, orchards, breeding farms; open enterprises with great successes.

At present, the society has had 400 members who are the owners of enterprises and production facilities, placing jobs for nearly 4,000 laborers. Many members have won high level of income and the number of rich members have accounted for more than 70%.

Stable development of home-based economy helps veterans involve positively in gratitude repayment movement. Since 2009, local veterans have granted 80 gratitude and hi-unity houses with the total value of VND1,641mn to needy members. Besides, many social activities have been paid much attention by the society members.

Le Minh Xuan added that home-based economy has improved members’ material and spiritual life. Annually, 98% of grassroot sub-societies and 96% of sub-societies win title of clean and strong unit; more than 98% of members reach standard of exemplary member.

Important achievements on the new front along with numerous social activities of building and protecting the Party, authority, socialism, national great unity bloc; educating patriotic and revolutionary tradition; building clean and strong veteran society and more have contributed to finalize local tasks of socio-economic development and national defense and security. Possibly speaking, these are achievements of local veterans on new front of poverty reduction and wealth making.
