UNESCO considers Ho dynasty citadel
Thanh Hoa province has prepared the dossier on the Ho dynasty citadel to submit to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) for consideration and recognition as a world heritage site.
The citadel is situated in Vinh Loc district and it was the capital of the Ho dynasty.It is also called Tay Do (western capital) to differentiate it from Dong Do (the eastern capital – Thang Long).
It is a unique architectural stone monument from Vietnamese feudal history.
Built about 600 years ago, it has four gates are in the centre of each wall facing the different compass directions. The Ho dynasty citadel is an ancient military construction of great cultural and historical value. The dossier has been gathered since 2006 and is currently being considered by UNESCO. The final conclusion will be announced in Bahrain in June.
