UNESCO pledges to promote lifelong learning

Wednesday, 14/07/2010

International donors will help Vietnam carry out a project to research the issues, opportunities and challenges of lifelong learning in Vietnam, said UNESCO’s Chief Representative in Hanoi, Katherine Muller Marin.

Based on the research, current policies, programmes and mechanisms will be reviewed to promote education and learning in the country, Marin told Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan in a meeting at the Government Office on July 13.

For his part, Mr Nhan highly appreciated the support UNESCO and UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning provided to Vietnam and stressed that lifelong learning plays a key role in the country’s socio-economic development.

“Vietnam is moving towards a knowledge-based economy, so all people should be provided with chances of learning to raise their expertise,” Mr Nhan said.
