Unmanned aircraft to serve scientific marine studies

Update: 28-05-2013 | 00:00:00
On May 26, six unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) conducted ten flights to coordinate study among institutes under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.  According to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), successful pilot flights for Central Highlands Programme 3 in Da Lat City and marine scientific studies in Nha Trang City have helped the group of researchers from the Space Technology Institute to continue completing aircraft, producing a series of aircraft to serve marine flying activities in particular and socio-economic development in general. Also on May 25-26, 2012, Vietnam’s UAVs were successfully tested in Hanoi and the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong. Then, VAST continued trial flights over the sea at Van Phong Bay in the central province of Khanh Hoa. During the two-day pilot flying programme, 33 flights were conducted, including four night flights. All flights obtained results as scheduled. The applications of these aircraft for marine science and technology research include monitoring the actual state of coastal natural resources, sea bed terrain, and the distribution of natural resources in shallow areas, warning of environmental pollution, prevention of natural disasters, and application in marine disaster warnings and rescue. The successful pilot flights strengthened the ability for controlled study and production of unmanned aircraft in Vietnam; the ability to use unmanned aircraft for studies about natural conditions and nature of Vietnam; and the ability to coordinate modern studying means in Vietnam, including VNREDSat-1 remote sensing satellite in the field of space, UAV in the field of space in coordination with other researching means on mainland and marine areas for science and technology research to serve national socio-economic development./.CPV
