In the movements of “don ca tai tu” (amateur music) in Binh Duong province, there is presence of many veteran artists contributing significantly to this type of music art. Although they are now living or passed away, their affection, passion for “don ca tai tu” (DCTT) have linked, inspired the next generation…Late meritorious artist Tu Con – A great “kim” artist of Thu Dau Mot landLate meritorious artist Tu Con, whose real name is Nguyen Van Con, was born is 1935 in a having artistic tradition, thus he was familiar with music since he was young. As 11, he started to learn amateur music. Although he was able to play many kinds of instruments, he was interested in “kim” (moon-shaped lute).  Meritorious artist Tu Con  As 15, he began to perform on stage. Thanks to his unique music competence, he could travel across the country to perform and received love from audiences. When he was 25, he was proposed as a bandmaster by a famous ensemble of reformed theater. During 20 years, he played for ensembles, like: Minh Canh, Kim Chung, Thanh Huong, Hung Minh, Thanh Minh – Thanh Nga, Hoa Dang Quy Sac and so on.After the national liberation, he returned to his hometown – Binh Duong province. He opened a welding shop to support his family and his artistic cause. He also opened classes to teach music freely at home. Because of his reputation, he had many learners. He also taught how to sing and perform on stage. Then provincial Cultural Center, Binh Duong Cultural Artistic troupe – now is provincial Folk Music ensemble – asked him to teach at their courses. Many of his learners are now successful with their artistic career. Late MA Tu Con also engaged in cultural activities at his locality. His reputation was consolidated through many prizes and achievements. He was conferred the title “Famous musician of Kim music instrument” at the national solo music contest in 1978. Afterwards, he won many prizes, like: silver medal (there is no gold medal) of the national “kim” instrument solo playing contest in 1988, silver medal of the national performing talent in 1992, gold medal of the national “kim” solo playing in 1993, gold medal of solo “kim” performing at the national DCTT festival in 2000 and so on. Because of his achievements and dedication to art, he was conferred the title of meritorious artist by the State in 2007.The sound from MA Tu Con’s “kim” guitar has no longer resonated, but his name, cause always live in the heart of people loving DCTT in Binh Duong province.Artist Cao Thi Thang – A forever green voiceArtist Cao Thi Thang is now 62 years old, but she has had 50 years of living with provincial DCTT. She said, at first, she used to imitate voices on radio. When joining local folk music troupes and then working in cultural field, her interest in amateur singing became affection.  Artist Cao Thi Thang was training amateur signing with artist Pham Ngoc Phu at her home in Di An town. Artist Cao Thi Thang has been known for her romantic voice in amateur singing. In 1970s, her voice often appeared on radio and was loved by many audiences. In 1978 – 1979, she won consecutively 2 gold medals of the Ministry of Culture. Then she usually performed on cultural programs of Voice of Vietnam (VOV).Afterwards, because of her health, she did not participate in cultural activities, but her love for DCTT was still alive. Many radios and televisions invited her to record her voice. In many cultural activities of the province, artist Cao Thi Thang has been a key character. In many years, artist Cao Thi Thang has been head of Thuan an town’s DCTT club.
