Update: 11-12-2013 | 00:00:00
After Hue royal court music, Central Highlands’s gong, Bac Ninh’s love duets, “ca tru” (Vietnamese ceremonial signing), “don ca tai tu” (DCTT) (southern amateur music) has recently recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. To continue to uphold, promote DCTT, apart from affection and enthusiasm of artists, the State and cultural sector should have specific policies as well as promotion to bring DCTT closer to majority of people.  Exchanges are opportunities for artists to learn each other and enrich DCTT.Binh Duong province has a long history of development, in which many forms of mental activity were also instituted including DCTT. DCTT has existed in Binh Duong land for over 100 years, and its vigorous vitality has demonstrated in many aspects of the society. While some traditional art forms in the North have to confront the risk of oblivion, DCTT in the South, especially in Binh Duong province still has a foothold in people’s heart. DCTT has been present in many occasions as well as respects of people’s life, and always expresses its particular spiritual values. In the past decade, the development of DCTT has been an important cultural achievement acknowledged by the whole world. Nevertheless, according to Binh Duong Museum’s Director Nguyen Van Quoc, this development contains many conflicts, especially between preserving, developing traditional values and the current market economy plus fierce enhancement of information and communication. DCTT activities have been focused but still not encouraged many people. DCTT has just attracted its enthusiasts, lovers, but not other people, especially, young people. DCTT Clubs provide activities and guidance of DCTT from predecessors but no professional training. At the present, the number of veteran artists mastering 20 original songs of DCTT is so small. Most of their DCTT activities at localities are spontaneous. They have devoted themselves to DCTT but have not enjoyed satisfactory policies.Southern amateur music has been honored, but it is more difficult to uphold and develop it. This requires detailed plans and projects so that DCTT can stand firmly against new challenges, continue to promote its values, and inspire people of all ages and strata.* Mr. Le Phan Thuan, Deputy Director of Culture, Sport & Tourism Department: Preserving, developing intangible cultural values including DCTT has been focused by provincial cultural sector. DCTT in BD province has grown for a long time. At the present, Southern amateur music has been recognized, thus upholding this traditional art is demanding. Therefore, we will devise plans to popularize DCTT among people. Besides issue of professional DCTT’s documents to artists, people, we will reform DCTT clubs, cultivate DCTT’s core artists. We will persuade veteran artists to join DCTT clubs to convey their skills and knowledge to young generations. However, they also need supporting policies from the State and cultural sector. Provincial Cultural Center and localities should organize more contests, festivals of DCTT for artists and people can perform, meet and exchange their experiences.* Mr. Vo Dong Dien, Chairman of provincial Literature & Art Society: Upholding, developing DCTT is an important and essential task but has to be done radically. Primarily, we have to educate the young generation to inherit DCTT. Authorities should give lessons of traditional music including DCTT through learning program at high schools. This could detect, cultivate new talents, simultaneously produce more enthusiasts for DCTT. Currently, the province has many DCTT clubs. The government should offer satisfactory policies to support these clubs and veteran artists devoting and conveying their skills, experiences to next generations. Besides, contests, competitions of DCTT need to be hold regularly at all levels create playgrounds for artists and people.* Artist Thu Hong, Head of DCTT Club under provincial Cultural Center:Over years, the number of expert DCTT’s artists is decreasing. Therefore, the State should pay more attention to veteran artists through specific policies and incentives so that they could continue to inspire the next generation. Additionally, training classes of DCTT should be organized frequently and broadly to attract young people. DCTT clubs should be expanded and supported financially, because these clubs are effective tools to maintain, enhance this art type.Reported by H.Thuan, N.Thanh – Translated by Ngoc Huynh
