Upholding heroic tradition in new rural construction

An Long is a remote commune of Phu Giao district. The lives of the local people faced difficulties In the previous years. But since 2000, there have been positive changes. The average income per capita of the local people reached VND5.5mln in 2005. The figure was VND18mln in 2012 with the economic growth reaching 15.5%...

According to statistics, in 2000, An Long commune had 73% of households with solidly-built houses, 73% of households with electricity, 78% of households in use of clean water and a health station with 5 beds. The average income of the local people reached VND5.5mln per capital per year.  

Since being granted the title of “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces”, An Long commune has made a lot of positive changes

But since 2000, An Long has constantly developed with many positive changes. There have been 100% of households in use of electricity and clean water; total State budget collection has reached more than VND8mln; the ratio of poor households under the province’s poverty line has always been below 5%; health station, kindergarten, primary school have met national standards…

Taking full advantage of favorable conditions on weather and soil, residents in An Long commune have step by step shifted the local structure of animals and plants. Particularly, 100% of rice-growing land have been changed to growing perennial trees with high economic value like cashew, rubber…This has contributed to quickly changing the lives of the local people.

As of late 2012, the commune’s perennial tree-growing area reached around 2,057 hectares, including more than 1,990 hectares for rubber growing. The commune is now home to a pig-breeding facility on contract with 1,000 pigs, 5 chicken-breeding facility with 3,000 or 12,000 chickens…It is estimated that the total number of cattle and poultry herein is around 70,000. The whole commune’s agricultural production value in 2012 was also estimated at more than VND41.4bln.

Pham Van Trong, Deputy Secretary of An Long commune’s Party Committee, Chairman of the communal Committee Chairman said that thanks to the attention and instruction of authorities at all levels plus the efforts by the local people, An Long commune has overcome difficulties to reach the above results.

In the current construction and development process, An Long commune’s government and people have step by step implemented the national target program on rural new construction with the goal of fulfilling this program by 2020.
