Urbanization to be accelerated

Over 25 years of construction and development, Binh Duong attained many important achievements, has become a bright spot in the southern key economic region. In order to befitting the process of sustainable development, to keep up with global trends, Binh Duong aims to build a civilized, modern, smart urban areas.

Modern urban spaces formed

Based on the general planning of Binh Duong province until 2020, with vision towards 2030, urban master plans were also approved, including five areas in the south of the province, including: Thu Dau Mot city, Thuan An city, Di An city, Ben Cat town, Tan Uyen town. The northern urban areas of the province include Dau Tieng town (Dau Tieng district), Phuoc Vinh, Vinh Hoa (Phu Giao district), Tan Thanh and Tan Binh (Bac Tan Uyen district), Lai Uyen (Bau Bang district). The urbanization rate of Binh Duong has reached 82%.

Vo Hoang Ngan, Director of the Provincial Department of Construction, said:” Provincial leadership has followed, directed localities to review, adjust and supplement urban planning and speed up the coverage of construction planning in the province, especially in central urban centers, urban centers that create growth drivers, areas that promote the potential and advantages of socio-economic development. The management of construction planning and urban development was strengthened through the issuance of directives and guidance documents. The planning management and implementation competence of some localities has been improved. Urbanization and urban development gained many good results, the rate of urbanization reached the target".

To reach a new level, the province is implementing the provincial planning for the period 2021 - 2030 with a vision until 2050. According to the "Binh Duong Provincial Planning Orientation Framework 2021-2030, vision until 2050", Binh Duong must overcome the middle-income trap according to the six-pillar strategy, including: Avoiding intermittent development traps through legacy development; Avoiding productivity traps through innovation-based development; Avoiding urbanization traps through integrated development; Avoiding ecological environmental traps through sustainable development; Avoiding dependency traps through multilateral development; Avoiding inequality traps through equitable development.

Nguyen Van Loi, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly‘s delegation, said: "The planning of the province in the period 2021 - 2030 with a vision towards 2050 to guarantee Binh Duong's role and position that is one of the most dynamically developing localities of the southern region and the whole country. Thriving, civilized, and intelligent Binh Duong The master plan must ensure the compatibility, unity, alignment and synchronization with regional planning, at the same time, it must ensure the overall and synergy between branches, sectors and localities in the province, while meeting current demands and creating a development platform for the next periods”.

Breakthrough in infrastructure

In order to create motivation for urban, socio-economic development of the province, key infrastructure projects have received much attention, like: arterial transport axes, inter-provincial, inter-regional connections, My Phuoc - Bau Bang road, Thu Bien - Dat Cuoc road, Bach Dang 2 bridge, upgrade and expansion of National Highway 13, North Tan Uyen - Phu Giao - Bau Bang... In addition, Binh Duong applies TOD model - urban development by relying on public transport in order to develop urban chains combined with the construction of rapid bus (BRT). Currently, Binh Duong is mobilizing many resources for infrastructure investment to create favorable conditions for the province to continue developing in the next period.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Thien, former Director of the Vietnam Institute of Economics, said: "Binh Duong has no railroads, no ports, no airport - i.e., many conditions for basic development are lacking. However, in fact, Binh Duong is the province with the best transportation system in the country. Therefore, Binh Duong achieved development feats.”

To rise to the new development level

With 20-year-experience of industrialization, in the context of the outbreak of the Industry 4.0, in 2016 Binh Duong collaborated with Eindhoven (The Netherlands) to execute Smart City project as a groundbreaking program oriented towards services, high-tech production, dynamic and worth-living city. With the "Triple Helix" approach, in which human and knowledge are the center, networking cooperation is the motto, innovation enhanced; the project has contributed to the outstanding development of Binh Duong, setting basic foundations, bringing the province to a new position in the international arena, preparing for the next stage.

In 2019, in Binh Duong New City, the complex project surpassed criteria to join the World Trade Center Association (including 330 members from 90 countries), and was recognized as World Trade Center Binh Duong New City (WTC BDNC). This is a strategic turning point, creating the foundation for breakthrough in the international services and trade of the province.

In order to create a breakthrough, in 2020, the Provincial Party Committee agreed to approve the Scheme "Binh Duong Innovation Region" proposed by Becamex IDC Corporation. The Innovative Region is extended from the Smart Zone and in the Smart City Scheme for the period 2016-2020 and in the new period. With determination, Binh Duong province (the only representative of Vietnam) for 4 consecutive years has been named by the world's Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) in the top 21 cities with excellent smart development strategies.

Especially in 2021, Binh Duong was named in the top 7 out of more than 200 cities in the world, and continues to reserve this title in 2022. Binh Duong has proved that its development direction, Binh Duong Smart City, is correct and in line with the world trend. These are also advantages, the motivation for Binh Duong to make a breakthrough in the new period.
