Trinh Van Vinh has won both a gold and silver medal at the Asian Weightlifting Championship in Uzbekistan, a qualification event for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
In the clean and jerk, Vinh lifted 124kg, ranking fourth out of 20 athletes while in the snatch, he won a gold medal with a lift of 158kg. He subsequently won the silver medal with a total lift of 282 kg.
In the men’s 62kg, Vietnamese weightlifters will have more opportunities to win medals as strong rivals China, the Republic of Korea and Thailand are absent from the tournament.
On April 26, tournament competition began in the women’s 58kg and the men’s 69kg.
