Chanh My commune in TDM city was previously well-known as an area of growing diep ca vegetable. Nguyen Van Thanh, Vice-Chairman of the communal Farmers’ Association said that the local area of growing this kind of vegetable in 2000 amounted to 50 hectares or 60 hectares. Since 2007, the commune’s farming area has been shrunk, due to many projects implemented. This area is now around 16 hectares and is mainly used for growing various vegetables and crops.

Before the situation, Chanh My communal Farmers’ Association has braced up locals to make a shift on the crop and animal husbandry structure in line with the local urbanization process. The association has made efforts to help locals develop production models towards urban agriculture, including those of growing vegetables in greenhouse, breeding ornamental fish…

It is expected that the model of growing vegetables in greenhouse will loom large across the commune. The commune is being supported by provincial Farmers’Association to develop the model and has disbursed VND200mln in loan for 8 members at My Hao 1 hamlet. They are upgrading their farming facilities to grow various vegetables and fruits for the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.
