A Vietnamese delegation led by
Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan, is attending a United Nations
meeting on science and technology for development in Geneva, Switzerland
from May 21-25.
At a ministerial round-table session on May 21, Minister Quan highlighted some scientific and technological achievements which have contributed to Vietnam’s economic development in recent times. He introduced a scientific and technological development strategy for the 2011-2020 period, which has been approved by the Government. He expressed Vietnam’s wish to cooperate with regional and international countries in developing science and technology and dealing with climate change.
Aside from the meeting, Minister Quan worked with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Francis Gurry, on May 22. He asked Francis to support Vietnam in building and implementing a national program on intellectual property rights, developing three trademarks for agriculture, building an intellectual property development centre at Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park and training human resources.
Francis said he supports Vietnam’s national strategy on intellectual property with the aim of turning it into an effective tool for promoting science technology, economy, society and culture.
