Vietnam attends World Skills Competition

Update: 25-06-2013 | 00:00:00

The competition has attracted 1,006 contestants from 67 countries and territories. The participants will compete in 45 official skills and one performance skill in six fields, including construction and building technology, creative arts and fashion, information and communication technology, manufacturing and engineering technology, social and personal services, and logistics and transportation.

The Vietnamese contestants will take part in 12 skills contests: cooking, restaurant services, electronics, carpentry, bricklaying, wall and floor tiling, web design, information technology software solutions, refrigeration, fashion and mechatronics

Duong Duc Lan, Director General of the Department of Vocational Training, said this is the fourth time Vietnam has attended such a competition. The country did well at the ASEAN Skills Competition, but this time the delegation aims to gain more experience, strengthen solidarity and promote mutual understanding with the other participating delegations.

Vietnam first attended the World Skills Competition in 2007, when it was held in Japan. At last year’s 41st competition in the UK, Vietnam won 7 “outstanding” certificates, ranking 23rd out of the 48 countries and territories that took part in the event.
