Vietnam, Australia bolster parliamentary ties

On July 16, National Assembly Vice Chairman Phung Quoc Hien hosted a reception in Hanoi for a delegation of Australian parliamentarians led by Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on the Parliamentary Library Rowan Ramsay.

At the reception, Hien said he hopes that the visit will help Australian parliamentarians gain a better understanding of Vietnam, and strengthen exchanges between the two countries’ parliamentarians in a practical and effective way, thus boosting further the strategic partnership between the two nations.

Hien also praised the two law-making bodies’ establishment of their friendship parliamentarians’ groups, which he hopes, will contribute to fostering the friendship between the two legislatures.

He showed his wish that Rowan Ramsay and other Australian parliamentarians will support and facilitate the Vietnamese community in Australia to afford them to make greater contributions to the development of the country of residence and the bilateral ties.

For his part, Rowan Ramsay hailed Vietnam’s active participation in the UN peacekeeping missions and its respect for international law in dealing with the East Sea issue and expressed a desire to further develop the relationship between the two countries in the time to come.

The same day, the Australian delegation had a working session with Secretary General - Chairman of the Office of the NA Nguyen Hanh Phuc, who is also Chairman of the Vietnam-Australia Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group.

Phuc asked both sides to increase delegation exchange at all levels, supervise the implementation of cooperation agreements between the Governments, and share information on parliamentary activities in each country.

Rowan Ramsay pledged his greater efforts to step up collaboration between the two legislative bodies, and the two nations’ relationship.
