President of Vietnamese Student Association at the University of Glasgow, Tran Kien, said that preparations are carried out effectively and conveniently thanks to the enthusiastic participation of Overseas Vietnamese students and the encouragement and timely help of the Embassy of Vietnam in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.
According to Mr. Kien, the Vietnamese students at Glasgow are glad to receive information on Vietnam Discovery Day, which will take place in Edinburgh, because this is a major cultural event. This is the first time Vietnamese students in Scotland have an opportunity to jointly organize a national event to promote the culture, image, country and people of Vietnam.
Right after receiving the information and support request from the Embassy of Vietnam, the students at Glasgow came to Edinburgh to discuss and coordinate measures with representatives of Vietnamese students from other cities.
With a large number of participants, Vietnamese students at Glasgow actively undertake a number of tasks such as MC; banner design, leaflets for the program; contact with media, such as STV television channel, universities to promote and invite for participation; invite The Hanoi Bike Shoppe restaurant to introduce Vietnamese dishes and invite Ceilidh Club to perform Scottish dance.
After a working session with representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese community in Edinburgh, the Vietnamese Student Association at the University of Glasgow lists voluntary students to serve the program.
During the preparation process, the students receive encouragement, help and guidance from the Vietnamese Embassy, therefore, the work is easier to carry out. However, there are also some difficulties such as geographical distance, the number of students is not large, and the lack of experience in organizing large events.
It is expected that Vietnam Discovery Day will be organized on September 7th at St. Andrew Park in the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland.
With the participation of many artists from Vietnam and overseas Vietnamese people and students and UK friends, Vietnam Discovery Day promises to bring unforgettable moments, helping discover the traditional and modern hidden charms of Vietnam’s culture.
The program will be a combination of art performances and fashion shows, introducing the food and traditional dance of Vietnam, and traditional cultural activities of Scotland.
