Vietnam fails to win in Summer Universiade in Russia

 The Vietnamese delegation returned empty-handed from the Summer Universiade which closed in Kazan, Russia, on July 17.

The 30-student team competed in chess, table tennis, gymnastics and track-and-field.

The highest Vietnamese result was 21st place (out of 71 masters) by chess master Vo Thi Kim Phung, Asia's under-20 champion.

The male gymnastic team ranked 18 out of 34. In the table tennis, the men's team was disqualified from the last-eight rounds.

And all track-and-field competitors failed to pass the qualifying round.

After 11 days of competition, Russia took top place with 155 golds, followed by China and Japan.

The Games attracted more than 10,000 participants from 175 countries and territories. They competed in 351 medal events.

The next Games will be held in Gwangju City, the Republic of Korea, in 2015./.
