Vietnam joins Earth Hour 2011

Update: 22-03-2011 | 00:00:00

The capital city Hanoi will switch off its lighting systems from 20h30-21h30 on March 26 to support this year’s Earth Hour.

The event aims to raise public awareness of saving power and using it more efficiently to reduce the negative impact of climate change.

The Electricity of Vietnam in Hanoi (EVNHanoi) will work with advertising companies and ask them to turn off the lights of advertising panels on the city’s main streets.

Non-essential electric lights at some public areas will also be turned off.

++The northern province of Quang Ninh will host a number of activities to support the Earth Hour.

Local authorities in the province will encourage people, especially those in urban areas to join in the campaign and switch off their lights and other unnecessary electric devices.

The provincial People’s Committee will cooperate with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to organise a march to support the event.

The Electricity of Vietnam in Quang Ninh (EVN Quang Ninh) will also turn off ornamental lights in public areas including buildings, amusement parks and advertising panels.
