Vietnam pledges to assist Laos in financial management

Vietnam is ready to share its experience in financial management with Laos, said Vuong Dinh Hue, head of the Central Economic Commission (CEC). 

The statement was made during a meeting on May 16 between the CEC and a delegation from the Lao Ministry of Finance headed by Minister Liane Thykeo.

During the meeting, Hue congratulated Thykeo on his election as finance minister and said Laos can study Vietnam’s experience in driving the economy out of difficulties and make appropriate application in line with the current situation in Laos.

Hue said that the two countries should strengthen co-operation in a number of key sectors including mining, transport and hydroelectricity, in keeping with close political ties.

He added that as a top economic think - tank, the CEC was willing to work with the Lao Finance Ministry to discuss issues of mutual concern, especially the formulation of economic policies.

For his part, Lao Finance Minister Thykeo expressed his sincere thanks for the strong support of the Vietnamese people and emphasised that the Vietnam-Laos traditional friendship will always be nurtured and strengthened by the people of both countries.
