Update: 05-03-2012 | 00:00:00

Vietnam ranked 6th for the first time at the World Team Three Cushion Championship, which concluded in Germany on March 4.

Playing in Group C, two Vietnamese representatives Duong Anh Vu (World No.37) and Ma Xuan Cuong (World No.29) held Italian rivals to a draw, with Cuong defeating Fabrizio Cortese 2-0 but Vu losing 0-2 to Emilio Sciacca.

Local billiard players were later trounced by Belgian rivals 0-2 before having two 1-1 draws with Sweden and the Netherlands.

Vietnam missed the chance to move further after meeting Danish competitors in the quarter-finals. Vu lost 0-3 to Tonny Carlsen and Cuong defeated Thomas Andersen 2-1. Danish players took a berth to the semi-finals with a higher score after the draw.

This was the first time the Vietnamese covered themselves in glory at the event, which had attracted players from 18 countries and territories around the world. The other two Asian nations, namely the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Japan, were placed 7th and 8th, respectively.
