Vietnam rejects US human rights report

Update: 23-04-2013 | 00:00:00

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has refuted the findings in the US 2012 Human Rights Report.

The Vietnamese State always respects and promotes the fundamental rights of all residents and they are all allowed to exercise their rights within the law.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Luong Thanh Nghi made the remarks on April 21 in reply to media questions about Vietnam’s reaction to the US Department of State Report on the situation of human rights in the country.

Despite acknowledging some progress in Vietnam’s human rights record, the US report continued to provide false information and biased statement on the real situation of human rights in Vietnam. This is detrimental to the promotion of the relationship between the two countries.

Nghi said Vietnam hopes that through straight and constructive dialogues like the one on April 12, both sides will have an objective and practical view of the human rights situation in each country and thus contribute to strengthening mutual understanding and promoting bilateral relations.
