Vietnam, Seychelles look to stronger cooperation

The signing in Hanoi on August 28 was witnessed by President Truong Tan Sang and his Seychelles counterpart James Alix Michel, who is currently on an official visit to Vietnam.

At their talks held earlier the same day, the Presidents agreed to direct relevant ministries and agencies to take specific measures in investment, tourism, agriculture, seafood, oil and gas and renewable energy to tap the two countries’ cooperation potentials.

President Sang thanked the Seychelles government for recognising Vietnam’s market economic status, describing it as an important contribution to the traditional friendship, mutual trust and support between the two countries.

While introducing to his guest Vietnam’s achievements during the renewal process, President Sang affirmed that in its foreign policy of multilateralisation and diversification, Vietnam always wants to expand cooperation and mutual support for development with African countries, including Seychelles.

He also congratulated Seychelles on its socio-economic achievements in recent years as well as its contributions to peace and stability in the Southern African Development Community in particular and the continent in general.

President James Alix Michel said he wishes Vietnam to continue reaping greater socio-economic development achievements to become a wealthy country with higher position and role in the international arena.

The two sides expressed their pleasure at the encouraging development of their multifaceted cooperation over the pats time.

Seychelles has the largest investment, among African countries, in Vietnam.

During their talks, the Presidents discussed regional and international issues of common concern, agreeing to continue to exchange information and strengthen collaboration and cooperation at regional and international forums to contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development.

The two leaders also agreed to issue a Joint Statement between Vietnam and Seychelles after the Seychelles President wraps up his visit.

President James Alix Michel invited President Sang to pay an official visit to Seychelles. President Sang accepted the invitation with pleasure.
