Vietnam, Singapore lift up ties

The relationship between Vietnam and Singapore has significantly developed in various fields, practically assisting the development of both countries.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the statement at a reception for newly-appointed Singaporean Ambassador Ng Teck Hean in Hanoi on September 7.

Mr Dung said Vietnam and Singapore should continue to exert efforts to lift bilateral ties to a new height for the sake of both peoples and the building of a stable and prosperous ASEAN Community, thus contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the rest of the world.

He said he hopes that the new ambassador will make positive contributions to promoting cooperation between the two countries in all fields, especially economics, trade, investment and tourism.

PM Dung asked the two sides to closely cooperate in building a united and firm ASEAN community that plays a central role in boosting cooperation with the partners and maintains the common stance on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issues.

He expressed the hope that Singapore will support Vietnam in the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations.

Ambassador Ng Teck Hean thanked the Vietnamese Government, ministries, sectors and localities for supporting and creating favourable conditions for Singaporean businesses to operate in Vietnam.

Regarding the East Sea issues, the diplomat affirmed his county’s consistent stance of supporting the settlement of all issues related to the East Sea through peaceful negotiations and on the basis of respect for the international law.
