To cultivate a good relationship

At the meeting, Nguyen Van Loi expressed his pleasure to welcome Michelle Bachelet and the delegation of Cerro Navia district, and appreciated the contributions of the former president as well as the Chilean people in the resistance war to save the country as well as in the construction and defense of the fatherland as today. The Secretary of the provincial Party Committee said that today's generation would promote the good relationship between Vietnam and Chile and believe that the relationship between Binh Duong province and Chile's localities would contribute to cultivating the good relationship between Vietnam and Chile.

Nguyen Van Loi gave an overview of the socio-economic development, defense and security of Binh Duong province as well as the province's development orientations in the coming time. According to the Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, at present, Binh Duong is one of the provinces and cities with rapid industrial development in the country. Currently, the province has attracted about USD 40 billion in foreign investment from 65 countries and territories including Chile. The province has 29 industrial parks and 10 industrial clusters with quite complete investment in socio-economic infrastructure; per capita income is nearly USD 7,000.

In parallel with economic development, the province always pays attention to investing in social culture and people's health care. However, according to the Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Binh Duong is also facing great challenges to prepare for the next stage of development. “We have to overcome the middle income trap; we should attract investment and develop new-generation industries for more sustainable development with focus on building social housing for low-income people and laborers and training high-quality human resources,” said Nguyen Van Loi.

The Secretary of the provincial Party Committee hoped that with many years of working experience and years of operation in the international arena, former President Michelle Bachelet would extend valuable shares to help Binh Duong develop stronger and more sustainable in the coming time.

To share special values

Thanking the provincial leaders for taking the time to receive the delegation, former President Michelle Bachelet was touched when recalling the history of the relationship between the two peoples of Vietnam and Chile during more than 50 years of diplomatic relation.

According to Michelle Bachelet, many Chileans in the 60s of the last century took to the streets to support Vietnam in the resistance war against the US to save the country. In May 1969, President of the Senate Salvador Allende Gossens, who was later President of Chile, visited Vietnam and had a historic meeting with President Ho Chi Minh. In 1971, when President of the Senate Salvador Allende Gossens became President of the Republic of Chile, he officially established diplomatic relations with Vietnam. For the people of Chile, the year 2023 is also a very memorable time to both celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and for Chilean people to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the coup by Pinochet forces whose dictatorship lasted for 17 years during which the Chilean people went through an arduous struggle to regain their democratic freedom. During the years the Chilean people suffered greatly from the Pinochet dictatorship, the Vietnamese people always stood with them.

“Therefore, for all Chileans, the relationship with Vietnam is a very deep one not just an ordinary social relationship but a close and increasingly tight relationship, especially, when I was the President of Chile, I had the honor to be the friend and now the younger brother of former President Nguyen Minh Triet. Together, we shared those very special values and stood together on the path of building a beautiful future for our two countries,” said former President Michelle Bachelet in an emphasizing voice.

Michelle Bachelet said that the relationship between Vietnam and Chile is extremely strong, so present and future generations of the two countries have the same responsibility to preserve and deepen that extremely good relationship. Former President Michelle Bachelet welcomed the delegation of Binh Duong province to visit Cerro Navia district - the capital of Santiago and Chile in the coming time.
