Vietnam to race for hosting World Cup

Update: 20-01-2011 | 00:00:00

According to todayonline.com, Southeast Asian countries will campaign for hosting the World Cup 2030.

Vietnam and nine countries in the region – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand – will join the campaign. Only East Timor will not participate in the campaign since its facilities don’t meet the required standards.

Singaporean Football Federation Chairman Zainudin Nordin said that his agency would cooperate with relevant agencies in Singapore to prepare for the campaign.

He confirmed that Southeast Asian countries are capable of hosting this event in the next 20 years.

Brazil will host the World Cup 2014, Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022. The host country of the World Cup 2026 is not fixed but it is believed that the world’s largest football event will come to Asia in 2030.

Besides Southeast Asian countries, Argentina, Uruguay, China, India and Australia plan to race for hosting the World Cup 2030.
