Vietnam Tuna Association launched in Nha Trang

 The Vietnam Tuna Association was officially established with 36 members on November 27th, at Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa.

 The establishment of the association is expected to support fishing activities as well as the processing and exporting of tuna. It will also apply modern technologies to improve the quality and quantity of tuna and to protect legal right of its members, such as catching tuna fish, business, and processing on a national scale.

 For 2011, the association set targets to catch 15,000 tonnes of sea tuna, 80,000 tonnes of tuna, 120,000 tonnes for consumption including material imports for processing.

 By mid-September, Vietnam exported 58,000 tonnes of tuna, worth USD 208 million, a 53% increase in volume and 73% increase in value compared to the same period last year.
