Update: 22-12-2011 | 00:00:00

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Consular Department is coordinating with the Hanoi Office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to implement the project under the auspices of the European Union (EU).

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Thanh Son said migration activities have become popular and diverse in recent years, and Vietnam’s open-door policy has created favourable conditions for its citizens to go abroad to work, study, or settle.

Mr Son reiterated the Vietnamese State’s consistent policy of promoting legal migration, fighting illegal migration, and ensuring the safety of and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of migrants. Vietnam wants to cooperate with all other countries in sharing migration-related experiences and data.

The same day, Deputy Minister Son activated an information portal on migration to provide policymakers and especially Vietnamese migrants with updated and useful information about this field. Migrants can also post their personal information on this portal to receive assistance from relevant agencies when necessary.

At the seminar, Dr Dang Nguyen Anh presented a general report on Vietnamese citizens’ migration situation, which gives an overview of this topic in the context of integration and development, as well as an analysis of state management in the field and the process of formulating Vietnamese laws for international migration on labour, overseas study, marriages with foreign spouses, and preventing human trafficking.
