Voluntary blood donation for community’s health

2011 was a successful year for the province’s voluntary blood donation (VBD) with 9,320 units of blood given or 116% of the target. Following the success, provincial Steering Board for Voluntary Blood Donation Mobilization will raise its target in 2012 to 9,000 units of blood. In addition to main blood donors who are members of mass organizations, the Steering Board will call on workers at the local firms and locals to join voluntary blood donation campaigns.

 

The whole province is now home to 108 VDB squads with nearly 3,500 members and 108 reserve VDB squads with 1,088 members.

  

 Voluntary blood donation is a noble deed for the community

In 2011, the province received 9,320 units of blood or 116% of the target. Di An town’s Steering Board for VDB Mobilization gained highest ratio with 157%, followed by Phu Giao district with 152% and Dau Tieng Rubber Corporation’s Red Cross Society with 140%...

 

Tran Thi Lien, chairwoman of provincial Red Cross Society said that thanks to propaganda and mobilization well implemented, the province has always obtained increase in the number of people joining VDB campaigns. The campaigns have also changed people’s awareness of VDB and blood transfusion safety. Hence, the province has always exceeded its annual targets for VDB task.

 

In 2012, provincial Steering Board for VDB Mobilization has set its target of receiving 9,000 units of blood and above at province-based hospitals’ demands. To fulfill this target, propaganda and mobilization task is a top priority of the Steering Board.

 

Propaganda activities for the local VBD task will be diversified via contests, meetings…Provincial Steering Board for VDB Mobilization will also well organize such campaigns as the Red Spring Festival and the Humanitarian Blood Donation Day…

 

Tu Anh Tuan, chairman of Di An town’s Red Cross Society said: “We have promoted propaganda and mobilization task with the motto of “Donating blood to save people” while improving VBD campaigns in both quality and quantity. Mass organizations also need pay more attention to blood donors…”.

 

VBD is a noble deed that needs to be respected when human beings know to donate their part of body to save others.
