Voluntary blood donation movement is growing

 With the noble meaning of blood donation to save lives, the movement of voluntary blood donation in Binh Duong province has drawn the participation of more and more people. In order to achieve the blood donation target this year, all levels of Provincial Red Cross Society are enhancing information and propagation to encourage healthy people to take part in this meaningful movement.

 Many voluntary blood donation activities at the beginning of new year

This year, Thu Dau Mot City Red Cross was assigned by the Provincial Steering Committee to collect 3,500 blood units (an increase of more than 50% compared to 2022). This is one of the key tasks of the city Red Cross, that is to perform and exceed the assigned targets. To carry out this task, right from the beginning of the year, Thu Dau Mot City Red Cross advised the City Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation to assign targets to Red Cross associations at wards and schools; at the same time, to develop a plan to propagate and mobilize people to actively participate in this movement. Red Cross associations in the city also informed and mobilized officials, members, and people with various direct and indirect forms. Thereby, official, member, and people’s awareness is increasing, and actively participated in voluntary blood donation.

The blood donation campaign organized by Thu Dau Mot Red Cross on February 13 has recently collected 359 blood units. Since the beginning of the year, Thu Dau Mot city has mobilized and received 1,058/3,500 blood units according to the assigned target. Doan Thi Thu Hong, Chairwoman of Thu Dau Mot City Red Cross, said that thanks to the active participation of staff and members in propagation and mobilization, the number of participants in voluntary blood donation in Thu Dau Mot city is increasing. The annual results met and exceeded the assigned targets. Staff and members of Thu Dau Mot City Red Cross continue to perform well the propagation and mobilization, and determined to work together to achieve and exceed the voluntary blood donation target of the year 2023.

In the early days of this 2023, many localities in the province are also launching voluntary blood donation campaigns. A voluntary blood donation’s day recently organized by Di An City Red Cross attracted many people. Everyone was happy with the wish to "give away" in the first days of the new year to bring faith and life to those who need blood for their medical treatment. Buddhist Nun Thich Nu Ngoc Anh of Tien Quang Pagoda in Di An City, said: “I am very happy that I’m eligible to participate in this blood donation. Every year I take part in major blood donation campaigns and donate my blood whenever I can.”

For voluntary blood donation movement to spread

In order to ensure an adequate supply of safe blood for emergency and patient treatment in Binh Duong in 2023, right from the beginning of the year, Provincial People's Committee issued a directive on strengthening the advocacy work of voluntary blood donation in 2023. Provincial People's Committee asked departments, agencies, mass organizations, armed forces, People's Committees of districts, towns, cities, units, businesses, and schools in the province to continue to strengthen the propagation and mobilization of voluntary blood donation; mobilize at least 20% civil servants, public employees, soldiers, union members and students to join voluntary blood donation.

In order to implement the directive of Provincial People's Committee on the mobilization of voluntary blood donation and receiving 27,500 units of blood in 2023, Provincial People's Committee cooperated with Center for Blood Transfusion and Hematology of Cho Ray Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) to develop a plan to mobilize, receive, and assign specific targets to Voluntary Blood Donation’s Steering Committee to mobilize the implementation of units and localities. Provincial Voluntary Blood Donation’s Steering Committee also directed the building of a reserve and effective blood donation force in the community with a wide volunteer network in 9/9 districts, towns and cities of the province.

The Provincial Steering Committee also directed 100% Steering Committees at localities and units to actively set up propagation plans, closely coordinate with Party Committees and authorities to mobilize civil servants, public employees, and people from all walks of life to involve in this movement in many forms; integrate information into large campaigns of the province to mobilize the participation of more and more people. Honoring and rewarding typical individuals and groups of blood donors as well as calling on organizations and individuals to support the movement also receive attention of units and localities, to motivate and spread the movement.

Nguyen Thi Le Trinh, Chairwoman of Provincial Red Cross, said that the voluntary blood donation movement in the province has been implemented effectively, spreading quickly, became more and more effective, attracted all classes of people, better meet the blood demand for emergency treatment of patients.

The movement has great pervasiveness, shows humanity and compassion, and many good examples were also honored in the movement. In addition, Red Cross Society at all levels from the province to the grassroots regularly inform and launch voluntary blood donation movement among civil servants and workers in enterprises. Thereby, these activities have raised everyone's awareness and responsibility towards the community. “The voluntary blood donation movement in the province has become a deeply humane social activity, has large number of participants, contributing to sharing as well as bringing joy and hope to patients who are in need of blood," said Nguyen Thi Le Trinh.
