VSIP - A highlight of clean production!

50 years ago, Prime Minister of Singapore stated: "If we could solve some problem or meet some of needs of the world, Singapore would become a pearl." Based on this idea, today Singapore is really a pearl of the world. Bringing Singapore’s experiences to Vietnam, after 20 years, the first industrial park in Binh Duong – VSIP 1 – (with an area of ​​500 ha), has been recognized as the highlight of foreign investment attraction, is an example of "green - clean - beautiful". Also being green criteria - clean - beautiful, along with VSIP 1, VSIP has now a total of 7 industrial parks across the country, including: VSIP 2 Binh Duong (2005): 345ha, expansion: 1,850ha; VSIP Bac Ninh (2007): 700ha; VSIP Hai Phong (2010): 1200ha; VSIP Quang Ngai (2013): 66,0ha; VSIP Hai Duong: 150ha (2015); VSIP Nghe An: 750ha (2015).

The first exemplary industrial park model, the enthusiasm of the two countries

VSIP originated on the basis of the cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore, from the proposal of Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet to Singaporean Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. VSIP was officially launched in Jan 1996, demonstrated the Vietnamese Government’s enthusiasm for boosting the national economy and strengthening its position in the region as a center for sustainable investment. With the expectation that VSIP would be a successful example of industrial park in Vietnam, the Vietnamese Government’s has paid much attention to every step of VSIP, and set up a separate management committee for VSIP.

From experiences in building industrial zones of many countries, a successful industrial park must have three elements: the country building industrial parks must have a wealthy economy and attractive investment environment, location and favorable conditions, the competitiveness quality of each industrial park must be open, obvious, it means that there must be an on-the-spot management board. And thanks to the Government's attention, VSIP achieved all three conditions.

VSIP executed Phase I (100ha) in Jun 1996 and was completed in Jul 1997. Being expanded to 500ha, VSIP was designed as a fully consolidated industrial park infrastructure, including electricity, water, sewage and communications system. Due to gained experiences and expertise after two decades, VSIP is very confident of meeting all production requirements of global corporations in the integration period. In response to a huge demand for leasing, VSIP has started to expand projects in the South and North.

 A highlight of clean and environmentally friendly production

Starting with VSIP I owning beautiful, convenient geographical location in Thuan An district, 17km away from Ho Chi Minh City, adjacent to Binh Duong Aveneu (Highway 13), Song Than railway station and Tan Son Nhat airport. Since May 1996, VSIP has constructed a complete technical and service infrastructure with quality assurance appreciated by investors.

With this first project, VSIP founders determined to design and build an industrial park with synchronous technical infrastructure and services meeting international standards to attract investors with clean and high technologies for export and domestic consumption. If an investor does not meet technological and environmental standards, VSIP will refuse to receive, despite huge investment capital. VSIP also established Vietnam - Singapore Technical Training Center (in 1998) with modern equipment with a total investment of over VND60 billion. Every year, this center provides 450 technical workers of 3/7 level in fields of: electronics, electrical maintenance, mechanical maintenance, machine building and precision engineering. In addition to the complete and modern infrastructure, the industrial park has implemented ISO 9001-2000 quality management system.

Many investors have appreciated VSIPs in Binh Duong, and considered these as their prioprities after actual surveys. Mr. Pittas Konstantinos, Director of Medochemie Pharmaceutical Company, said that VSIP Binh Duong with good and modern infrastructure plus swift administrative procedures had created more favorable conditions for investors. Therefore, the company chose VSIP to execute their pharmaceutical production project with an investment of over $16 million.

Unexpected success

With the goal of "green - clean - beautiful industrial parks", right from the first days, the industrial park has implemented some strict measures such as: Choosing industries of electricity, electronics, precision engineering, pharmaceutics and dried food; auxiliary industries and light industries does not pollute the environment. Until now, VSIP wastewater treatment plant has an capacity of 24.000m3 / day, ensuring treatment of 100% sewage of the industrial park and Gucoland area. In addition, VSIP II wastewater treatment plant has completed the construction of wastewater treatment station (Phase 1) with a capacity 6.000m3 / day. Investment capital was $1 million; accumulated investment is $134 million. Currently, 30% VSIP area is green space. Industrial parks often collaborate with the authorities to examine, instruct factories to fulfill environmental commitment. Many factories in the industrial parks achieved ISO 14000 environmental standards.

VSIP's standpoint is to create the best value for customers and shareholders, provide a professional work environment for employees, and generate an impetus to the sustainable economic growth of the locality. Owing to persistent pursuing the green - clean - beautiful goal, VSIP has developed constantly and achieved the highest efficiency with an industrial park chain and a set of elite business. Currently, VSIP has 360 enterprises operating in VSIPs, generating an annual turnover of over $5 billion and contributing $65 million to provincial state budget.

The success, the strong investment attraction of VSIP is a great success not only of the two states of Vietnam and Singapore, but also from commitments to environmental protection, efficient working environment. VSIP is indeed a prestigious brand of green - clean - beautiful industrial park, a typical model of cleaner production, a good example for industrial parks, enterprises in the country and the world.
