On the days near the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival 2022, we have returned to Phu Giao district and clearly felt the atmosphere of preparing to welcome Tet here. Every one is busy for preparing to welcome the Lunar New Year with many joys and new hopes.

Every home, everyone enjoying Tet

Only a few of days, people in Phu Giao district will celebrate Tet in a warm, prosperous and happy manner. With the close attention and leadership of authorities at all levels, the lives of the local people have been improved. The local social policy beneficiaries have received much attention and support. Vo Thi Huong, living in Phuoc Vinh town’s quarter 3 is a lonely elderly person who participated in the national resistance war from 1973 and was infected with toxic chemicals. She was supported by the district to build a house of gratitude with a total cost of VND 100 million. For many elderly veterans, wounded and sick soldiers, this is the great joy in life.

Mrs. Huong said with emotion: "Before, I lived in a small shack. I never dreamed of being able to renovate the house, let alone building the new one. I still can't believe that I'm in this new house. Now, I have a new house to celebrate Tet. I am very grateful to authorities at all levels for supporting me to have this house.”

The joy of the days near Tet not only comes to policy beneficiary families, but also to the poor when being given warm and meaningful Tet gifts. Holding a Tet gift, Le Thi Phuong, a poor household in An Linh commune happily said: "I am very happy when I receive the gift, but also very sad because I am still in the near-poor group of the commune. Next year, I will try harder to overcome poverty." Meanwhile, Tran Quoc Thang, a disabled person in Tan Long commune said emotionally: “I am disabled and partially live off the support of the State. I am very happy when being donated a gift on the occasion of the Tet holiday. I will try to work and live well so that people don't see me as the disabled."

With the meaning of a gratitude Tet to policy beneficiary families and "leaving no one behind", localities in the district have taken good care of social policy beneficiaries so all enjoy a happy and significant Tet that is approaching. It is known that the whole district has 2,461 revolutionary contributors, 68 poor households under the province's poverty line, 262 poor households under the policy of social protection and 717 near-poor households. With the attention of authorities at all levels, the lives of the local people have gradually got stable. This year, every house will have a prosperous and warm Tet.

VND 13.8 billion spent on taking care of people on Tet

In 2021, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Phu Giao district faced many difficulties, but still tried to maintain programs and activities to take care of people on Tet, ensuring that everyone and every home can enjoy a joyful and warm Tet. This activity has become a custom of the district every time Tet comes. It is expected that on the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival 2022, the district will have more than 11,100 social policy beneficiaries receiving meaningful Tet gifts with a total expense of about VND13.8 billion, including VND10.2 billion from provincial State budget and VND6billion from the local State budget. These Tet gifts have the great meaning, contributing to encouraging, sharing and warming the hearts of families every time Tet comes and spring comes. The district’s People's Committee has established 11 delegations to visit and give Tet gifts for subjects in 11 communes and towns. The delegations have begun visiting and offering Tet gifts to the local social policy beneficiaries from January 21 (December 19 of the lunar calendar).

Leaders of the Party, authorities, Fatherland Front, mass organizations, agencies and units in the district have also organized many delegations to visit and offer Tet gifts to policy beneficiary families and poor people. In addition, communes and towns in the district have also mobilized funds to buy gifts, visit revolutionary contributors, poor and near-poor households, children with difficult circumstances.

As of now, localities are completing the payment of allowances to revolutionary contributors. Talking to us, Tran Hong Dung, Vice-Chairwoman of Phu Giao district’s People's Committee said: “Along with its development, Phu Giao district has paid special attention to taking care of policy beneficiary families and contributors. At present, the district’s policy beneficiary families have living standards that are equal to or higher than the average level of the local people, and there are no policy beneficiary households in the poor category.

In 2021, Phu Giao district built and repaired 61 houses for revolutionary contributors with a total cost of VND 3.6 billion. The district also organized the annual "Tet for the poor" program and received enthusiastic response from all-level authorities, sectors, organizations, agencies, enterprises, and a large number of people from all strata…, said Tran Hong Dung, Vice-Chairwoman of Phu Giao district’s People's Committee.
