At the reception, both sides discussed the loan agreement procedures and the implementation progress of the Binh Duong Water Environment Improvement Project (WEIP). The project involves constructing a wastewater collection system and a centralized wastewater treatment plant for Tan Uyen city as well as upgrading the wastewater collection system and treatment plants for Thuan An city and Di An city.

Maria Angelica SotoMayor stated that the project is in line with Binh Duong’s circular, green and sustainable economic development strategy. The project's technical design takes future climate scenarios into account, ensuring long-term resilience and adaptability of the infrastructure, including selecting technical solutions that save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. She highly appreciated Binh Duong’s efforts in improving the urban environment and affirmed that the WB would continue providing technical support and monitor the progress. She also expressed hope that Binh Duong would coordinate with ministries and central agencies to expedite the signing of the loan agreement by April 2025 while addressing challenges related to compensation for affected households.

Mr. Thanh emphasized that the project is a crucial step in creating a cleaner and healthier environment for Binh Duong, contributing to the local sustainable development. He affirmed that Binh Duong would further propose solutions to relevant ministries and agencies to remove related obstacles in order to speed up loan procedures and mobilize resources to ensure that the project is not interrupted.
