Gifts come to people in need

Returning after the resistance war against the US, Dao Van Be in Hiep An ward, Thu Dau Mot city lost his legs. He and his wife at the age of over 70 have suffered many diseases. Their children are also very poor, so they can not help the poor old couple. In the past, the provincial general hospital granted a wheelchair to him but now the wheelchair was old and broken down. Therefore, he is very moved to receive a new wheelchair from the provincial Red Cross society. He said joyfully “Enjoying the State and Red Cross society’s attention, I am very happy. I am in dire need of a new wheelchair to replace my legs. With this new wheelchair, my life reduces many difficulties”.

Or, Nguyen Thi Kim Mai, 40, in Hiep An ward, has faced difficulties after a sick of muscle atrophy. With inconvenience in move, she has little opportunity to meet people. Till at the age of 38 she got married to a man from the Mekong province of Kien Giang. After that the couple gave birth a daughter one year later. At present, her husband has worked at a pig slaughter house whilst she is at home to take care of her daughter. Her husband’s income is very low, so it is difficult for them to buy a wheelchair. After enjoying a wheelchair from the provincial Red Cross society, she joyfully said “Thanks to this wheelchair, I can actively move and do housework easily”.

Many programs help the poor

Tran Thi Lien, chairwoman of the provincial Red Cross society said that over years, the society has made efforts to mobilize donors to help Orange Agent/dioxin victims and people with disabilities through health check-ups, wheelchair granting, many more. Aside from granting wheelchairs, the society has many other programs for people with difficult circumstances.

The society has mobilized to offer non-interest loans for Orange Agent/dioxin victims, medicines free of charge for more than 700 patients, health insurance cards and hundreds of wheelchairs with the total value of over VND1.8bil.
