Update: 05-09-2012 | 00:00:00

The Vietnamese women team continued its winning streak to rank 7th after thrashing the Czech Republic 3-1 on September 4.

Key player Thao Nguyen was held to a draw by archrival Katerina Nemcova but her team mates Mai Hung and Thien Kim out did two stronger opponents Kristyna Havlikova and Tereza Olsarova and Nhu Y had a draw with Karolina Olsarova in the final match.

With a total of 10 points, they overtook Hungary to share 7th place with China, Ukraine, Georgia and France, just one point less than table leaders Russia and Poland.

In the next round, they will face strong Serbian rivals who are placed 10th.

Meanwhile, the men’s team was held to a 2-2 draw by underdog Egypt when all of its GM, namely Quang Liem, Truong Son, Duc Hoa and Thien Hai, failed to beat their much weaker opponents.

With this disappointing result, their position remains unchanged. They are scheduled to meet hosts Turkey in the evening.
