From the beginning of the year, the Trade Union of Thu Dau Mot city have kept on to actively review and capture the thoughts and aspirations of employees; thereby, many ways to take care including raising the food rations at the enterprises, VND-0 market fair, cultural and sports activities have been implemented. In addition, the families of workers affected by the COVID-19 epidemic and in difficult circumstances are supported as proposed by the city's labor union in timely manner.

On the occasion of Workers’ Month 2022, the Trade Union of Thu Dau Mot city held a ceremony to launch the Workers' Month and Young Workers' Week, as well as the Action Month on occupational safety and health including 7 responding programs with policies and regimes such as 375 gifts for union members in harsh circumstances at a total amount of VND 187.5 million, 25 gifts for union members suffering from occupational accidents at the amount of VND 23.5 million, 140 gifts to families of union members in harsh circumstances at the amount of VND 140 million, 4 gifts to 4 families of deaths from COVID-19 epidemic at the amount of VND 23.5 million among other. Along with that, the city's Trade Union also reviewed and made a request to open trade union passbooks for 14 children whose father or mother as a union member died due to the COVID-19 epidemic at a total amount of VND 140 million.

From the beginning of the year, the Trade Union of Thu Dau Mot city has made many imprints on trade union activities

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Trai, Deputy Chairman of Thu Dau Mot city Trade Union, said that although the epidemic is under control, and all activities have returned to normal, in general, workers' lives are still at bay; in which situation, many enterprises have been affected in terms of production and business operations, making the income of workers unstable. Thereby, the city's Trade Union has cooperated well with the grassroots to grasp the thoughts and aspirations of workers, review difficult situations and especially cases of hardship to proactively help. In addition to the funding from the city's Trade Union, the provincial Trade Union, and trade union officials, they have mobilized and called for help from many businesses in the area. The funding source has been used to open a VND-0 market as well as visits cases of hardship to timely help hundreds of people overcome hardship.

As supported by the programs of the Trade Union of Thu Dau Mot city, Ms. Do Thi Khuyen working for Asia Real Estate Joint Stock Company as an example. Khuyen's husband, after participating in activities during the epidemic, unfortunately contracted the disease and died leaving her with 2 small children. Having a meager income, Khuyen could not afford to raise the children or even rent a house. Ms. Khuyen confided: "There were times I don't have a dime in my pocket, and I don't know where to borrow, so I get the support from the union. Knowing that my family is too harsh, the city's Trade Union officials always pay attention with visit, support and share."

Or Mr. Dang Truong Chinh, working at Becamex hotel, worked alone with a meager salary, and had to support his mother who was seriously ill and bedridden for many years. Understanding Mr. Chinh's situation, the city's Trade Union actively proposed, visited and helped.

Playgrounds and activities created

In addition to helping families with extremely harsh circumstances, the Thu Dau Mot city Trade Union also created many playgrounds and entertainment sites for employees such as karaoke contests for union members, employees of the enterprise sector, football competition with dozens of participating businesses, labor union sport festival with 95 businesses participating in 258 teams participating of fun games such as guessing teammates, bag jumping, etc. Along with that, other activities were launched by the Trade Union of Thu Dau Mot city to help connect employees, and take better care of them.

To protect the legitimate rights and interests of employees, right from the beginning of this year, the city's Trade Union has perfected the legal policy on labor, mobilized and negotiated with employers to improve the quality of mid-shift meals for employees from VND 20,000 to VND 25,000. The unit also organized the implementation of the document to organize the job exchange floor of the provincial Job Introduction Center to workers and grassroots Trade Unions, which has helped thousands of workers successfully find jobs.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Trai added: “Capturing employees' thoughts, aspirations and working needs, we have introduced workers to at enterprises to ensure jobs and stabilized incomes for them among frequent activities for the time to come."
