Update: 05-08-2012 | 00:00:00

The 97th World Esperanto Congress on the theme “Esperanto – Bridge for Peace, Friendship and Development” was wrapped up in Hanoi on August 4.

The congress approved a resolution reaffirming the importance of the Esperanto language, which was developed based on the ideals of peace, friendship and mutual respect.

Over the past 125 years, Esperanto has been used widely around the world as a bridge for friendship, peace and development. Its development as a means of global communication was confirmed this year when Google added Esperanto as the 64th language on Google Translate.

A wide range of activities were held during the week-long congress in Hanoi, including Esperanto teaching sessions, a seminar, an eloquence contest, granting Esperanto certificates and cultural exchanges.

On the occasion, Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan presented the Friendship Order to the World Esperanto Association, and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) granted insignias “for peace and friendship among nations” to 8 Esperanto promoters.

President of the Vietnam Esperanto Association (VEA) Nguyen Van Loi emphasized that Esperanto is a bridge for hope, happiness, equality and humanity among nations and continents. We should all join hands to make the bridge firm and wide to link people's dreams, he said.

The congress was considered a success and Loi handed over the Esperanto flag to a representative from Iceland, which will host the 98th congress.
