Cooperation links
Nguyen Hoang Trong Hieu, from Bo La hamlet, Phuoc Hoa commune (Phu Giao district), has over 7 years of experience in his family's guava growing business. He currently serves as the director of Thanh Kien Guava Agricultural Cooperative. Under his leadership, the cooperative has successfully maintained a strong partnership with local farmers through an effective linkage model. Realizing that traditional agricultural production in Vietnam often faces many challenges, from market fluctuations, unstable prices to weather and pest risks, Hieu has implemented a linkage program between cooperatives and farmers to improve production efficiency, creating sustainability in the agricultural value chain. The guarantee of stable output from the cooperative helps farmers avoid the situation of "good harvest, low price" and increases their ability to negotiate selling prices. On the other hand, purchasing products under contract at stable prices helps farmers have a goof source of income and creates many job opportunities in the local community.
Hieu said that this program is established based on clear and transparent contracts. Farmers sign contracts with cooperatives and commit to producing according to technical and quality requirements. The cooperative ensures the provision of quality plant varieties, agricultural materials such as fertilizers, pesticides and technical support throughout the cultivation process. Providing quality plant varieties, agricultural materials at preferential prices and technical support has created a sustainable and stable value chain.
Hieu himself always clearly identifies the challenges and has solutions in replicating and developing this program. Thanh Kien Guava Agricultural Cooperative is currently finalizing procedures to diversify guava products, aiming to help members increase their income. The model of linking cooperatives with farmers has proven to be clearly effective in improving productivity, product quality and income for farmers.
For green living environment
With the benefits of trees and research on market demand, Le Trong Ky in quarter 8 of Phu Hoa ward (Thu Dau Mot city) has boldly opened a tree service store and aims to build a system of retail stores selling ornamental plants, flowers, and products related to trees.
This project not only meets the increasing demand of people for green space and ornamental plants but also contributes to raising people’s awareness of environmental protection. Ky shared that the project of developing a system of green tree service stores aims to build a green tree production facility with self-sufficient input tree sources, focusing on decorative trees, gifts, office decor trees, shop decor trees and aiming at a facility specializing in constructing green tree projects.
With this system, Ky will diversify the types of ornamental plants and flowers, provide professional tree care and consulting services, and distribute related products such as flower pots, growing media, and gardening tools. In addition, he focuses on improving landscape design services, providing garden and yard design and construction services, renting trees for events, offices, and periodic tree care services... It can be said that this project of Ky has demonstrated the entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, seizing business opportunities and contributing to bringing green space to the living environment.
Persistence and passion
Stemming from his passion for growing fruit trees, Vo Thai Son in Ben Tuong hamlet of Lai Hung commune, Bau Bang district, implemented a project of growing green-skinned pomelo in 2017. To keep his pomelo garden growing well, Son spent a lot of time taking care of it from planting to harvesting.
In particular, he regularly learns citrus growing techniques on the media and participates in skill training programs on how to care for green-skinned grapefruit organized by his locality. Additionally, Son proactively sought out traders to introduce his products. Simultaneously, he promoted green-skinned pomelo on social networking sites and continuously learned and exchanged scientific and technical knowledge about pomelo growing. His family's green-skinned pomelo brand has always been favored and ordered by traders since it first bloomed.
Every year, with 600 green-skinned pomelo trees, Son's garden yields an average of more than 50 tons of fruit to supply markets in Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City and northern provinces. According to Son, the green-skinned pomelo is a challenging plant to grow, as it is susceptible to pests and diseases. It is necessary to schedule a monthly check on the variety, fruit, and health of the trees. Regular care, such as pruning branches, creating a canopy, and removing clusters with many fruits to leave only fruits of the same size and without disease or deformity, will help the grapefruits grow evenly and round.
By researching techniques and applying science and technology to the cultivation process, Son has created high-quality pomelo products, meeting market demands for clean and nutritious agricultural products. Due to his perseverance and passion, he has successfully implemented a traditional agricultural product project, developed sustainable production and brought economic benefits to his family and locality.
In addition to developing the economic model, Son also actively participates in Youth Union activities organized by his locality; is always willing to help and share with young people having difficult circumstances; exchanges experiences in cultivation, production and business with young people and farmers in the commune to work together to develop the local economy.
The 2024 "Rural Youth Entrepreneurship and Start-up" Contest organized by the Provincial Youth Union received 25 startup and innovation projects in the rural sector. As a result, Nguyen Hoang Trong Hieu's clean organic guava project won first prize; Le Trong Ky's green tree service store system project won second prize; Vo Thai Son's green-skin pomelo planting project won third prize.
