The ​​"Smart way to save electricity" idea of Ly Ngoc Minh, Secretary of Hiep Thanh ward’s Youth Union in Thu Dau Mot city is one of 10 excellent ideas that entered the final round of the 2022 contest "Ideas and initiatives on safe, economical and efficient use of electricity among young people” organized by the Youth Union Central Committee.

Ly Ngoc Minh said that he came to the contest to convey the message: "Electricity is not an endless source of energy, so it is necessary to use this energy in a smart, efficient and economical way". Currently, scorching heat is taking place on a large scale, continuously prolonging at 39-40 degrees Celsius, leading to a sudden increase in electricity demand. According to forecast information, this year's weather will continue being complicated, with scorching heat tending to increase abnormally. Therefore, the situation of electricity consumption is forecasted to continue at a very high level, increasing the risk of overload, power failure, even the possibility of fire-explosion, causing unsafety and danger to human lives. “With the desire of contributing to solving a problem on efficient use of electricity and energy saving, I have searched power saving measures applied by many countries around the world, then based on the actual situation in Vietnam to propose some smart power-saving measures”, Mr. Minh shared.

The idea is concreted by concise infographics, with vivid, eye-catching illustrations and colors that can quickly and clearly convey information about smart power-saving measures, instead of making long texts, articles. According to Minh, an infographic can contain more concise information than a long article. Colorful charts and illustrations convey the message much better than tables and statistics like before. Through statistics on social networking sites, the number of viewers from Youth Union members and people for infographics is higher than articles in words. Another advantage is that infographics are much easier to share than articles.

Significant message

In the infographic set of "Smart ways to save electricity", Ngoc Minh wants to convey the meaning and importance of saving electricity to life and the development of society. In fact, if one day there is no electricity, all activities will be stopped. The society and people will not be able to develop towards civilization and modernity. Production will be stagnant and the value of life will be reduced...The author sets out groups of problems to answer the question: "Why we must save power?". Accordingly, each person needs to increase the life of electrical equipment; reduce the cost of living; save national energy; make environmental protection; improve the quality of life; increase production and business efficiency... Since then, each person has put forward solutions to intelligently use household electrical appliances in order to efficiently use electricity, save costs, protect the environment, improve the quality of life.

And, the solutions are to use smart air conditioners that are greater than 24 degrees Celsius or use fans, instead of air conditioners; use led bulbs to save over 85% of energy compared to incandescent bulbs; buy a refrigerator with size that is just enough to use; ride a bicycle instead of taking a car or motorbike to nearby points; turn off all electronic devices, instead of leaving them on standby; focus on ironing many things at once (heavy clothes are ironed first, then take advantage of the heat of ironing thin clothes); turn on a hot - cold machine 10-15 minutes before bathing or use a solar water heater; cook rice before eating for only 40-45 minutes to limit power soak too long…

The "Ideas and initiatives on safe, economical and efficient use of electricity among young people” contest was organized to propagandize and educate to raise young people and community’s awareness of safe, economical and efficient use of electricity. The contest creates an environment for young people to participate in proposing ideas, initiatives and solutions to bring economical and efficient use of electricity into daily life. Through the contest, the oorganizing board will select excellent ideas and initiatives to put into practice, thereby concretizing the " Youth Creation" movement among young people.

After launching the "Ideas and initiatives on safe, economical and efficient use of electricity among young people” contest 2022, the organizing board received 270 entries from 25 Youth Unions of provinces, cities with 4 categories of article, application, software, model, video clip and infographic. As a result, the voting council unanimously proposed the organizing board of the contest to select 10 excellent works to enter the final round, which is expected to be held in late February 2023 in Hanoi capital.
